Ireland71
After a 4 hour drive yesterday I finally got to jimmy's where I was met with a warm welcome and a friendly hand shake, the evening began with a can of girls beer a can of becks then a good old chat before sitting down to a four course meal with the main being a vension stew,it was cooked to perfection, I tell you I almost bust I ate so much and was all washed down with a few wee drams of a very nice port, then we retired to the lounge with a few more beers and a wee dram of irish whiskey, where we sat and talked most of the night watching game of thrones which was very interesting I have to say, before we knew it,,it was almost 11,30pm and time to retire to our beds only to be back up for 3.30am,so quick freshing up then down stairs for tea and some toast before setting of to be at the ground for just after 4.30am,at the ground jimmy gave a briefing on what route we were going to take, with that one round was pushed up form the mag of the .270 were jimmy told me take the lead,so of we set slow and steady, and every few minutes jimmy was glassing around while I stopped and watched a master at work,we slowly stalked on towards a nice looking copse at on end of the field,at this point the wind was howling and fresh cow pats in the field jimmy had a bad felling that this was going to be an unsuccessful stalk but we Kept our hopes up and stalked on wards towards the copse, jimmy glassed the area again while I stood and watch a kestrel hover over head out looking for his early morning feast, jimmy took the binos down noting he said,so on we went towards a 5 bar gate at the corner of the field where we stood for a few moments and watched the morning flight of duck comming in,which was quite spectacular,at this point jimmy took a moment to plan out another route on where we would hope to find our target spices the elusive muntjac,at this point we stalked on but at this point the wind blowing a storm and around the next corner was the cattle which we knew were thereso we took a few moments to glass the area, then out from our right trotted a roe doe and yearling doe heading in the direction of the duck pond, would have been nice if the stopped so we could capture that moment of beauty in the morning sunlight, but it was not to be and on they went, jimmy turned to me and said vince we shall go back to the truck and move on to the next pice of ground I nodded my head and whispered ok mate,so back to the truck it was and we headed of to the next pice of land which was a large wooded area and good shelter and a short break from the high winds,so with a quick hope up the bank into the wood and the stalk began, slowly we moved forward towards a field at one end of the woodland glassing as we went,we finally got to a large gap in the hedge row where we could finally glass this feild,if the the elusive muntie was going to be anywere it was going to be here, but noting every thing was going again us and the howling wind was getting worse, time was pushing on and with a quick glance at jimmy we both agreed it was time to move on,so with that back to the truck we went and headed on to the final pice of land, jimmy turned the truck we shall head in this way he said only to find a dog walker walking his dog straight up the middle of the field, yet another thing going again us,but our spirts was high and on we went regardless towards the high seat, where four 30ft trees was on the ground we knew the wind were high and blowing hard but I think we underestimate how strong they where,we finally got to the high seat where we took the time to look at the damage the wind had done,we knew at this point they would be noting staying around, but nevertheless we kept our spirts high and stayed for a while, before we called it a day,and headed back to jimmy's for cracking fried breakfast and where we discussed our morning of mishap, even though it was an unsuccessful morning the stalking it self was very enjoyable, Jimmy I would like to take this moment to thank you very much for inviting me into to your home and making me feel very welcome, the food was cracking drink was flowing, and most of all the company was first class,if anyone is thinking going stalking,I would personally recommend jimmy (blunderbust) he is a first class stalker great host great company and one hell of a cook Thanks again jimmy I shall see you again it two weeks time ATB vince Edited August 17, 2014 by Ireland71
Blunderbust
Aye Vince, it was a tough morning mate, I think we had everything go against us and the swirling strong wind did not help one bit. At least the clays will be flying for us in 2 weeks time .
