sandersj89
Great weather here in Sussex today and we headed out to the shoot for a 9.30am start. This is the time of the bluebells here in sussex and the floor of the woods are a blue carpet at the moment, the scent is fantastic! First job of the day was to build a number of shelters in sunny spots through the 3 main woods, 4 posts banged into the ground, linked with length of wood and then 5 large sheets of galvanised nailed down, we will throw straw under when the birds are released and feed them as well: The onto a little pen maintenance, we cleared the fallen leaves and branches around the perimeter, fixed holes in the wire and the sprayed of the weeds under the electic fences, just one of three pens done today: No real need for 4 wheel drives today as the ground is bone dry! Though Benjamin had his first go at driving a landie on his own! Then moved on to some work of the partridge pens, loaded one on the back of the gator to relocate it: Then dug it into the ground and laid a mesh apron with logs over the top to fox proof it: All in all a tiring day but lost achieved and great weather…if a little too hot at times! Benjamin had a ball driving around in the gator of on the quads, very chuffed with his landie driving as well! Jerry
Ferretboy111
They look some well managed woods to keep bluebells in them. Wish my woods looked like that! Alex

Alex Thanks Alex We are very lucky with the landowner, he values his woods and is very happy for us to manage them. We make the effort to keep light coming in and manage the trees so they flourish. As a result we get good undergrowth and at this time of the year the bluebells look fantastic. And yes, great to try and get ahead of the game....mind you not that long before the birds arrive!
