Description

Here is a custom Mauser 98 rifle in 30-06. Built on BRNO VZ24 M98 action. The VZ24 of course being known as one of THE BEST M98 receivers ever made in terms of metallurgy, smoothness and hardening.
Not used since recent full restoration so finish in impeccable state.
Stock - light walnut, hand rubbed oil finish and hand checkered. Horn buttplate and also comes with matching rubber recoil pad for slightly longer LOP or those with soft shoulders. Stock beautifully shaped. Full length glass bedded receiver and bottom metal. Tapered barrel section fully floated.
Barrel & metal work - Hammer forged barrel, 8.75/10 condition, fired under 200 rounds. Slow Rust blacked for london finish. Recently fitted with premium Recknagel front and rear sights for perfect regulation at 50yds. Rear sight is white line, front is red bead and carries a hood with windows for light access. This rifle is simply stunning for shooting running game or hunting with iron sights. Receiver is drilled and tapped for standard Mauser 98 bases as well of course. A 2nd rear sight matching is provided with the rifle, slightly higher and will regulate at 150yds. Rear sight can be adjusted with a screw, and other sights and heights are available from Recknagel of course.
Bolt has minor (very shallow) pits on the face but is not of any significance and has recently passed proof.
Bolt has been fitted with a premium 3 position side safety.
Trigger is a custom Huber Concepts trigger, with adjustable ball bearings allowing you to set it either as a normal single stage trigger, or to a stunning two stage trigger, which is what I prefer personally.
Barrel is 24", LOP with horn buttplate is 13"-13.5" depending on how trigger is adjusted. With rubber buttplate fitted it is approx. 14". For woods hunting, standing shots or iron sights, the buttplate setup is ideal, if it was to be used predominantly prone on the hill, the recoil pad fitted might be more comfortable.
This rifle, stock, LOP was designed for a hunter with average length arms and build, with a height of approx. 180cm / just under 6ft.
Screws and extractor, safety catch, etc, etc. have been nitre blued for a real stunning look.
The rifle has been tested and using factory 165g Norma Nosler Partitions, prints a 5 shot group of 1/4", which is simply just brilliant for a reasonably lightweight profile barrel.
The internal rails and ramps of the receiver have been hand lapped to be as smooth as possible. Bolt handle set low to accomodate a low sitting scope.
The pistol grip is rounded for a classic look and sports a hand shaped inlay for a nice touch, but also to protect it from splitting if it was to take a knock.
The costs of the build was far in excess of the sales price, but gun is needed to go to sale for personal reasons, so this represents a very good deal.
