Best Pigeon Magnet

What do members recommend for the Best Pigeon Magnet and where from? Consideration should be given to:

Cost

Reliability

Strength / solidity

Power consumption

Easy to use

Accessories like flappers

I'm sure that a lot of members use these things and they seem to work pretty well.

Another side to it is which makes / retailers should I stay well clear of?

I had been looking on PW for a similar summary for a quite while. The site sponsors get a bit miffed (rightly in my opinion) by recommendations to buy elsewhere. A full and frank discussion is unlikely to occur therefore.

My mate and I use 2 rotaries. One is the standard lightweight offering from the sponsors of PW. The other is an 'ultra' lightweight version from a very very expensive competitor. We have foam winged deeks and a set of hypaflaps.

We just bought a wireless flapper. Too early to say if it really works, but the range on the remote is ****. Strangely, it seems to work at a greater range if you point it into your mouth and look at the device. :good:

Now my personal opinions. I'll number them so more knowledgable shooters can more easily destroy me.

1. They are both well built and will last. Buy from flea bay once, and you will be back there buying again. A waste of money in my view. If either of our machines broke down we could get them repaired by the vendor, no quibbles.

2. I like hypaflaps. However, although they are great to get you started, we change them for dead birds at the earliest opportunity. No doubt in time I'll learn to recognise situations where the movement from a hypaflap wins over a real bird and vice versa.

3. Lightweight rotaries are still a little too clunky and bulky for us. Ultras cost £20 - 40 more.

4. We wanted an 'ultra' lightweight rotary because generally they are lower drain and use a much smaller 7.0Ah battery. We can then take 2 batteries with us if it's a really long day. Usually ultras have in-line motors which makes them sleek and easier to stow. We like that.

5. Don't bother with foam winged deeks. Far too bulky. Sort of depends if you want to start out with bouncers though.

6. Buying a magnet as a package is really good value. Do you also want to buy a battery, charger, wing spreaders, speed controller or carry bag?

I hope this helps in some way. Good luck deciding but don't forget your 10% discount.
