davo
If you buy a moderator from a source other than a RFD, i.e on line or if you have one made, and you have a spare slot on you're certificate can you fill the details in you're self or does the entry have to be done by a RFD, like wise if you're moderator slots are full do you have to go through a RFD or can you change the details on the certificate you're self? mry716
A moderator/silencer for a standard (non FAC) air-rifle is off ticket but all others normally need adding to your FAC as a variation so you that have facility to purchase. If you make one yourself you can add it to your own FAC so long as your FAC provides that facility, otherwise there are very, very few exceptions to the rule that you do not write on your own FAC. If anyone makes a silencer for a cf rifle without either facility to hold same on their FAC (or they are a RFD) then they are breaking the law and under no circumstances can they legally sell it to you or anyone else. Besides you are breaking the law by purchasing it. Generally a silencer/moderator is classed the same as a weapon (rifle) and needs a good reason made in your application and a variation adding to your FAC to purchase or acquire same. It is then purchased or sold just the same as any other rifle. There are exceptions whereby a moderator(s) may be bought, acquired, held and sold without a variation but they are few and the most likely is when you have a condition on your FAC to allow that rather than make the application for a variation. You can then purchase, manufacture and sell without any alteration to your FAC BUT it will still need adding to the buyers FAC in the same way as any other weapon. Or of course you could work for the Forestry Enterprise and not have to even have a FAC to buy a rifle or ammunition let alone moderators. Hope that clarifies the situation.
