Gun Watch Posted June 1, 2020 Report Share Posted June 1, 2020 Steyr 1886 Kropatschek (Portuguese) £975 8x60R Rifle Private Seller Used - Very Good Condition Evesham, Worcestershire Bolt Action Description 1886 Portuguese Kropatschek obsolete calibre rifle in 8x60R with top wood hand guard and reloading dies and 20 unfired brass cases. The rifle it’s self is in very good condition and shoots well, the bores rifling is clear and well defined, the action is smooth and the magazine tube and lifter work very well. This is not all matching numbers but this is common with a rifle that was sent out to the colonies when it no longer became the main service rifle of that nations armed forces. The wood ins generally in excellent condition for a service rifle over 130 years old and has still got the top wood hanguard whilchnis only on rifles sent to the colonies and is very rare to find on a Kropatschek, the top wood does have a crack however this is easily repaired and does not effect the functionality of the rifle as it is only an “accessory’†added for colonial troops. The Rifle comes with RCBS forming and bullet seating dies which cost £230 brand new and cannot be bought from uk retailers so are very hard to get hold of, they have also only been used to make less than 25 rounds of ammunition so are like new. The 20 unfired brass are also very expensive costing on average over £4 in the uk. This is an obsolete calibre rifle section 58/2 so no licence is needed and can be shipped if necessary for a cost.
