Dear All

The current situation regarding shooting and AI is as follows.

There is no ban on any type of shooting in any of the zones.

All shooting within the PZ & SZ must be carried out a minimum of 500m away from any free range commercial poultry unit.

The newest general licence allows all wild game products (including pigeons) shot within the three zones to be moved to anywhere in the England provided it has the appropriate “beer mat†stamp (see BASC website or Defra website for information on stamping) but this meat cannot be exported.

Wild game meat bought into the three zones from other parts of the England, can be processed and moved back into England or exported.

So it really is a matter of business as usual, the only changes are the stamping of birds by game dealers, for movement from the three zones into the free area (England).

Shoots taking place within the three zones wishing to give the guns a brace of birds to take home out of the RZ can only do this if the birds have the correct “beer mat†stamp.

BASC advice to shoots is to buy back their birds from the game dealers that have already been stamped.

There now should be no problems with game dealers taking birds but we again urge shoots to ensure they have a market for the predicted bag before they shoot.

For more information on the detail of the licences please follow this link http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/n...dex.htm#licence

The BASC website has been updated to reflect the above,

David
