David BASC
Dear all, Following the Welsh Assembly’s renewals last week all licences in the UK now in place for 2008. These licences provide the legislative background to our being able to shoot and trap certain bird species all year round, such as crows and pigeons. All details and downloads have been updated today at http://www.basc.org.uk/content/pestandpredatorcontrol
Country Boy
Having previously downloaded the OPEN GENERAL LICENCE, allowing me to shoo(t) woodpigeons all year round, from the DEFRA website, I notice that the goal posts have now been moved. DEFRA have transferrred responsility of it and the content/wording to NATURAL ENGLAND and they are already reviewing it, they have begun with SCOTLAND. It appears the LICENCE has been rubber stamped again for this year BUT..... I can't help wondering what the motives really are for bringing in NATURAL ENGLAND. There was a mention of an explosion of the woodpigeon population this morning on COUNTRYFILE but the reporter was only concerned with woodpigeons frequenting the town and country garden bird feeders, a reference to oilseed rape being a winter food source, no mention of crop damage or control of the bird.
