Whats the diffrence between 12 and 410. versions in terms of noise, and killing distances etc etc. Any info on the 12g versions much appreciated as i have no experience of these. vole
Hi Chop.I have only ever used the 12g ones. From listening to forum members there is not a great deal of difference in the quietness. The people who make them tell me that the 20g is the quietest as it boils down to what size the mod is in proportion to the cartidge and I think the 20g Pedretti has a 12g size moderator. The mod on the .410 is pretty skinny and the 12g is ,well, what you expect. The Hushpower Baikal is a big, long gun but better built than the Pedretti .It has a forend. I prefer the Pedretti despite that.Single barrel and folding. No forend so fits in normal slip and very light. You need to use subsonics to get full effect and the 12g Eley 6,s are cheaper than the .410,s. It looks like you already have the Baikal .410 though? My 12 has bagged me quarry out to the usual ranges,ie 30 yards or so.I am not accomplished enough to take longer shots. Never a bother about noise despite shooting near houses. The full choke does produce damage to the meat so I try to aim off a bit if it edible quarry.I guess the .410 has the usual limitations of the smaller calibre. The moderator made me shoot about 20 inches low at 20 yards so need allow for that which does obscure the target. Not the best for flying targets, well, not for me anyhoo.Very potent squirrel, rabbit pest gun which you can load appropriately if anything else comes along.I carry a BB or so in case of fox. I have my Baikal on sale at the rfd,s.I am 6 f 3 and over 15 stone but found it really aggravated an old elbow joint problem after a few trips out, then again I do walk a long distance on my shoot. There was an article from a pro pigeon shooter in the magazines who uses an adapted semi auto last autumn.
