El Gringo
I've always had an interest in wood-carved decoys but have never actually done any myself. I recently visited a fellow who does all sorts of wood carvings and was quizzing him about the subject. For decoys, he claims that a local wood, cedro, would be perfect for the job. Says it's durable but very light weight and easy to carve. I think on my next trip to the States I'll dust off all my old decoy carving books, buy the right set of tools, and have some fun upon my return. Many years ago, using a decoy making kit that consists of an aluminum mold and plastic beads, I made many dozens of solid body duck decoys and then hand painted them. They're as good today as they were when I popped them out of the oven. Anyone else hunted over their own decoy products? El Gringo
