smcgreg1
The farmer that I normally shoot for has rape and barley at the moment but the pigeons have gone off to feed on other fields. I managed to catch up with him the other day and asked if there were any other farmers with problems but he said no. I then asked him who owned the bean fields next to his land and he told me the farmers name but like most of the farms around here the land was leased to another farmer. The farmer that owns the land with the beans lives over the other side of the town but after some searching in google and yell I managed to track him down. I first went to see if I could speak to him but was unable to find anyone around. The next time I went I typed a letter and took that with me. I also put in one of my cards that I had made up. (hope you are not getting bored reading this ). The same thing happened the next time I went back to the farm so I put my letter through the door. The next day I got a call from the farmer, he is a really nice old boy, and we had a chat about the old days when his father used to take him out and shoot rooks and pigeons. He gave me the number of the farmer he leases the land to and said he would be telling them that he has given me permission to shoot on any of his land. I have spoken to the farmer who has the lease and he said if it's good enough for John then he has no problem. Happy days  I now have 4 fields of beans to shoot over and 2 of the fields have dense woodland next to them. Anyway the reason for boring you this far is to say that what swung it for the farmer to call me was he thought that the letter and card were very professional and not just some flyer through his door. He said he felt it would have been rude of him not to at least call. So the three things I done was to find out the farmers name, targeted the letter specifically to him and his land and used a calling card with the letter. It may just have all been a fluke but if it helps someone else out on here then good stuff Going back to the land owner tomorrow with a nice bottle of whisky for letting me have permission.
