  3. Hi guys,

Have just started reloading and am on the lookout for a Lee 3 or 4 stage turret press or something similar in another make.

Would also be interested in a Challenger press if anyone has one they're not using.

Give us a shout if you can help me out.

    Thanks

  4. I bought one of these universal cleaning kit thingy mabobs a while back that does from .17 up to 12 bore. The mops for rodding shotguns are fine the big problem I had though was when I tried to scrub the barrel on my .223 the cheap **** brass rod snapped at the threaded end and got stuck in the barrel. It was an absolute epic to get it out.

I now find it beter to buy good qulity individual components instead of kits.

  5. I have a Howa 1500 in .223, it is the stainless heavy barrelled version. I find it to be very accurate for target shooting and I would certainly put myself and my Howa up against any of the other club members with Tikka or Remington rifles.

The only thing that you need to be aware of is the twist rate of the barrel as most Howa's are 1:12 twist. All this means is that in .223 you can only fire ammunition with a bullet weight of 55gr or less as the 1:12 twist just won't stabilise a heavier bullet. PRVI Partisan 55gr BT FMJ is ideal!

The Hogue stock is a big plus point for these rifles as they are really comfortable and solid.

I cannot fault the trigger either, some might want it a bit lighter but I find it fine and dandy!

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for the advice chaps, i took it all apart and removed the ejector springs to give it a good clean and found one of the springs was bent at the bottom  i then put the ejectors in without the springs and found the bottom ejector was VERY tight, couldnt push it in with my hands, that explains the stiffness. A few minutes with a smooth file sorted that, :) feels like a different gun now, only problem is, where do i get new ejector springs from. Dont think its causing to much problem although its making me think it could be that, that caused the ejector to catch the breech.

    Regards,

    Sam.

    Sam,

If the ejector springs are the small ones on the foregrip then you can use the really small springs out of disposable lighters that push the flint up, that's what my Baikal is running on now and it works perfectly. Now try doing that to a Purdy!

  7. Hiya guys,

I recently bought a .223 and added a JSR bipod that I had from a PCP air rifle. What I have found out though is that the recoil from centrefire ammunition is enough to knock the pins out of the JSR bipod after every 20 rounds or so.

Without going straight out and buying a harris swivel 9-13" bipod what I am curious to know is whether or not the likes of the Harris clones made by Deben, Rockmount and Buffalo River are as good as a Harris?

Obviously I would prefer to not have to pay top dollar for a Harris but if you truly do get what you pay for and the "clones" aren't up to the job then so be it.

Your advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  8. Hi guys,

I am in the I am market for a .223 at the minute and really need some advice on what to go for as there are quite a few out there which all look the same to me!

I intend to mainly target shoot with it so I require a varmint barrel, other than that I am fairly ignorant of which one would best suit my needs and my price range (£400 - £600 ish)

Any advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  9. A lot of people slander Baikal's, I own one and it has never let me down. i shoot with a few lads who own some really pricey guns and they all own a Baikal as well, they're not pretty but they are what they are, and that is functional, robust and reliable. You can't go wrong with one matey.

Others may disagree ,but as a starter gun, a Baikal is hard to beat.

  10. I'm with Airborne9 on this one, as an ex REME and still an engineer I understand and recognise the need for a good cleaning and maintenance routine, those of you that abuse your equipment will find it fails you when you least want it too.

It takes only a few minutes to give your shooting iron a pull through and a rub with an oily rag, personally speaking I think its worth the time when you get in.

Others may disagree but opinions are like *********- we all have one!

  11. Portable air compressor for sale
