  1. Just purchased a new Weihrauch 99s, break barrel .22

Does anyone have any experience of putting a moderator/silencer on one of these, is it going to make a noticeable difference to reducing the sound?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Stuart, hope i'm not too late to add my two pennies worth. I have vast experience of MOD plod. Generally what's been already stated is correct but heres a few other points you should know.

They do carry guns, they do work with dogs but generally your not able to do both, imagine try to get a shot off with an alsatian bounding after the suspect.

They do tend to often be ex regular coppers who've retired, got their pension and then go for a less stressful time with the MOD, basically they are then coining it. Be warned also they have a tendancy to move you around the counrty, they are a national force unlike your local cops who work within a constabulary and so you can be local if you want.

Finally they aren't classed as a Home Office force so they don't get the same pension right, ok it's 35 years from now for those thinking of joining but a huge differnce when you retire.

If you are serious consider a local force, they also carry guns, far more chance of using them, thankfully though it's still VERY rare they are actually fired in this country and also work with dogs

  3. Being a Sussex lad myself I can vouch that down here permissions are generally, not exclusively however, tied up with small fee paying syndicates.

I rang loads of farms and found that local pillers of the community had organised a rough shoot with colleagues and were paying the local landowner just for rough shooting, so of course the likes of myself who won't didn't get a look in.

I was lucky that I had connections and have estates to shoot on but in general it's all sown up down here and sadly money talks.

  4. Firstly let me be clear I have virtually no idea which dog would be the best for me and hope those more experienced can give me some advice.

I have a small garden, hence I need a small dog that can flush out and if possible retrieve small vermin for me, pigeon and rabbit etc. I don't see me digging or sending it down any holes just simply using my 12 bore.

Oh I grew up around Jack Russells and think they're great but I know they can be difficult to control and the last thing I want is for me to spend most of my day out chasing it across field and dale.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks for any help

  5. Just a quick hello from a newbie ( to this this site that is). Been shooting since a kid. Got a thousand odd acres from two estates in this area (Chichester), just go for pigeon and vermin and alike using a 12 bore.

    A very informative site indeed.
