  2. Hi All Anyone here close to Bisley? I love it, but never have anybody to go with as most of my friends work during the week. Looking for any Pigeon Watch members who might like to meet up at Bisley for a shoot and a coffee, and possibly a beer after. I tend to go once or twice a week and shoot my .22 in the morning, then book a 600 yard target for some .308 action afterwards. (sometimes a 300 yard target if im in .223 mood!) Would love to meet other interested shooters to split the target costs with and have a laugh. Sorry if this all sounds like a bit of "Gun-Dating", but my ruger, beretta and remington get lonely and are always looking for other fine crafted sticks to shoot along side ;-) My ruger is almost 18 years old, has a fine all weather stock, a pleasant smile and a wicked personality. A slight whiff of cleansing fluid and splash of receiver lube, shes a girl in million. Shes very clean, well built (!) and always give satisfaction, especially when her tactical pistol grip is caressed by my right hand. Shes looking for a buddy who can respect her and lay comfortably alongside her on the 25 or 50 yard range. Remington is a beast of a boy boy, beautifully sculpted, well defined stock with an air of authority and swift, clean action about him. Chambered for a manly sized 308, hes seductive and handles well. He has a repolished crown and a bipod to die for. Hes a serious chap that means business and has one of the biggest slings ive ever seen. Hes looking for other unattached Remingtons, Mannlichers ot Parker Hales to enjoy fun times with. Beretta was rescued from the pound and has since been rehabilitated through love and determination to become one of the better Clay Smokers around. A cheeky lass, she has her off days and needs further training, but is very friendly after you get to know her, and eager to please her master. Please help - give these guns a chance.... To shoot on Bisley targets on ths adhoc basis with me, you need to be a full NRA member, but thats easy to organise. As well as long range target, im also a keen clay shooter, so if you fancy a clay mate (no pun intended) we can do this at Bisley *without you belonging to any organisation* so long as you have your own gun. If you are interested, send me a message and lets take it from there. Cheers Carl
  3. Wow, ok guys, so i can see a CZ is winning in the stakes here.... was on the range today with a .22 Ruger 10 ( love em, but heavy trigger pull on this one and a few jams) and then a 7.62 Enfield Enforcer at 600 yards. blatted 200 thorough the ruger. poor old target didnt stand a chance. Sadly there was no CZ in the armoury, so i didnt get to try one. Will see if my local gun shop has one i can "borrow" did ok with the 7.62. not my best day, but after zeroing it ready for 600, all 50 rounds made the black, but i got a few 2's which is unusual. Was using electronic targets today that send back the location of your shot to a portable monitor. very cool and savesyou having to pay for a "marker" to patch up your targets. Also most of my shots pulled right, in line with the bull which means i didnt adjust enough for windage. ( to be honest i didnt notice any wind and the flags were still, but nevermind. next time im sure the range wont mind if i send out a smoke grenade before i shoot! lol) It appears the GSG5 i used was defective and has gone back to be replaced. Im already thinking that i want my 22 to be my "cheap to run fun gun" (yes, ok, rifle for you perfectionists) and so far the CZ is winning, so one of those may wll end up on my ticket soon! Will let you know! I might even try my luck and ask for a variation - 1 bolt action 22 for serious range use, 1 semi for not-so-serious range use. Anyway, need to save my pennies - or sell the dog - before i can do that.
  4. well,i love the 17's too, but for me its a cost thing..... i can do 1000 rounds in one go at the range if i get an early start. At .22 prices, thats not bad (not cheap, but not bad either) but at .17 prices, i would have to sell a limb or something. im personally siding with a .22 purely for cost reasons. If im in the field and need the extra power, flatter trajectory of .17, i shall wheel out the Remington 700 and put some .223 lead in the air.
  5. hmmm...browning T bolt. ok, nice suggesstion, will keep my eyes open. thanks
  6. Well yes, 2 completely different rifles. My sensible head tells me to get a low maintainence CZ, but the "plink, plink" fun head tells me to get something based on the ruger action and a few spare magazines. Ideally i want to find a gunshop that has a range and put some rounds through both so i can see what feels good, and which rifle fits better, but i dont know any that can offer a range. Well, no, in an *ideal* world, i woudl have one of *everything* and my own 100 acres, but sadly thats not possible. Never shot a CZ before, but it obviously has lots of fans (according to this thread) so i may find one and have a plink to see why its so highly rated.
  7. i must thank everyone for the comments. im still non sure, but i *think* this will be my line up to get rid of thosy pesky empty slots - .22 - Ruger 10/22 Special. http://www.lowmillranges.co.uk/images/shop/edit/rifle_15.jpg OR a CZ .223 - Remington 700, harris bipod and 6-24x50 Tasco Scope 7.62 - hmmm..not sure yet. need to save my pennies first. and as for a bp pistol, well i favour the .44 Ruger Old Army But seeing as this thread is about a .22LR, i loved all the feedback. Will flip a coin and decide in next few days.
  8. this might help - http://www.owrpc.co.uk/images/1022magclean.pdf
  9. StuartP, hello. I hear your concerns about the Rugers, but i cannot tell what rifle you have, apart from the fact its bolt action and gives you great groups! What do you have?
  10. HI all. New here, so please be nice to me.... got a .22LR slot to fill and cant decide what to go for. Will be used mainly on the range, but some field work. I can only afford one so i want to make the rig choice. i *think* im after semi auto, but not discounting bolt action. Its really the accuracy, ease of cleaning and "fun" factor im looking for. plus of course, it needs to look hot when i take it out the case and people say "mmmm...nice" Heres my list so far - any comments or suggesstions? GSG5 - if your not familiar, this is the H&K MP5 in semi auto chambered for .22LR. Very very sexy looking. I have put many rounds through the one belonging to the club and love it BUT ive had 10 misfires out of 100 rounds!. Is this an ammo problem or a breech / firing pin spring problem? I sent the rifle to the armourer and havent heard back yet. Ruger 10/22 - have never had a misfire on these (using same ammo from the same box as GSG above) and there are hundreds of aftermarket add ons for it. Very cheap and has great reviews on any website you research it on CZ - available everywhere, various models, cant find many bad words about it, but have never shot one. So...there we go. i dont have a budget in mind. I just want a nice 22 for plinking, targets and field work. If i need to sell a kidney / my car / my soul to get the one i want, so be it. What do you recommend? Thanks for any advice given.
  11. hi, im just up the A3 near hindhead. clays, pistol, gallery, long range targets is what im mainly interested in. if you ever fancy clays at the hallowed ground of Bisley, let me know..... C
  12. HI all, great site. used it much in the past as a guest for info and recommendations. i love most country sports and am pretty keen on the clays, which i try to do once a week with my tried & trusted Beretta A303 semi. cannot fault it (except when using Hull cartridges....) been shooting since my first .410 when i was 12, but now concentrate more on target shooting as game and permissions are hard to come by where i live. Recently I have got into much more shooting from bp pistol, to gallery rifles and some long range work with .223 and 7.62. My scores are not bad, but need to improve, so i try and get to the range twice a week. Job, relationship, family all suffers, but hey nevermind, it keeps me and my dog happy and i get to make a *bang* and put a hole in a target, so who cares ....(joke!) apart from pulling triggers i run a web, print & marketing business, training dogs in my spare (?) time. At the moment I have the only Staffie in the UK whos (almost) a gun dog. yes, its true, the ONLY soft mouthed Staff in the UK! ha ha. Everyone told me it wasnt possible with a Staffie, but a bit of love and LOTS of liver sausage and i now have a staff that will bring back the goods, without chewing it.... im a qualified RAF marksman and full NRA member and can often be found at bisley, so feel free to say hello if you also shoot there, im always looking for buddies to have a coffee with as i actually dont know many people there. im looking for a new rifle and would welcome comments on our views on some .223's ( rem mod 7???) but will post in the appropriate forums. Also, i spent all day yesterday with the GSG5, a civillian H&K MP5, chambered for 22LR and a good ol winchester .357Mag just to make a big hole. WOW...is all i can say in the GSG5. Anyone else interested in this rifle? i have some comments about it and would welcome critique hope to speak with you soon. Carl
