Love shooting black powder, sure helps your offhand shooting when hunting. You should see the piece of curly maple that came with the kit - just awesome worth every cent I paid for the kit. We have a very strong blackpowder club where I live and a couple of expert builders to help with the gun.

Hi,
my wife is from NewHampshire, have brother in laws, sister inlaw and mother in law in NH, sister inlaw and husband in Maine, brother in law and wife in Alaska, sister in law in Oregon, nieces and nephews all over the place. Was in Maine and NH last October visiting family came home with a Track of the Wolf kit for an Isaac Hayes flintlock. Would go more often but 30 hours door to door is not pleasant (nor is the ticket price)

Hi,
buy a Lee collet neck die, relatively cheap and very affective, squeezes neck in so there is no case stretch, can also adjust neck tension.

Hi,
If I couldnt afford a T3 Id choose a savage as second choice. Rifles are rather "boxy" but usually extremely accurate out of the box. Varmint/target series with aluminium bedding blocks are brilliant shooters.

Hi,
If you cant buy on ebay etc, buy a kit, RCBS or Lyman - a delux kit usually comes with loading manual and appropriate calibre dies. Also kits will save you up to a third compared to buying individual pieces . For a first time reloader a single die press is all that is needed.
This is the minimum you need to get started http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/presses...Crusher_Pro.php

Hi,
my dyslexia is playing havoc SSK industries
Couldnt find the mod plan there but if you do a search on 300 whisper it will take you to all sorts of interesting places. Here is a cutaway of the mod.

Hi,
20 inch barrel with mod, further reduction in velocity, gas pressure behind projectile accelerates projectile down the barrel. SKS industries has a mod design that only increases barrel length by about 3 inches - uses an over the barrel expansion chamber.

Havent heard of any case failures in a 75 or 85, rare these days especially if you shoot factory ammo. Reloads can be a different story. I'd still prefer a lot more metal between my face and a case than provided by this design. Having experienced a failure I choose my actions very carefully.

Check out the target series from savage these are seriously accurate rifles

Hi,
why are you thinking of cutting the barrel, if its weight , no need with the RWS as the aluminium receiver makes it a very lite rifle. At 20 inches it will be very loud and there will be a loss in projectile velocity.

Boy are you guys being caned on ammo. Over here the rrp for federal 55gn soft points is $114 aus per 100. Thats about 50 pound a hundred when you do the dollar conversion. Amercan Eagle is even cheaper and the Russian Wolf ammo in 55gn hollow point is $61.50 a hundred, I reload my own for about 40cents (about 16 p british) .

As a walkaround allweather, T3 lite stainless.
The SPS I described in my last post (sits in my safe) is a 17 fireball and has a blind box magazine - no floorplate, over here they are the cheapest of the Remington lineup.

I own two early sakos (2 locking lug versions)both are brilliant guns. In the 75 and 85 not impressed with the location of the top locking lug raceway especially when the bolt is turned down. Not much metal between the case and your face.

Hi,
I have an RWS Titan in 7/08. It is the cheap version with the classic (straight) stock. I prefer this shape to shoot rather than the hog back style. Brilliant gun - 3 shots inside an inch at 100 metres - no trouble. Lightweight adjustable trigger interchangeable barrel system - what more could you want.

Hi,
Shot F class and F class standard for a number of years. Our range goes out to 800 metres (900 yards). My pet cartridge is a 6mm BR dasher .271 neck shooting 107 lapua scenars. Top shooter in our club uses a 243 ackerly improved with a 1in 8 or 1 in 7 twist barrel, vitavori powder and lapua scenar projectiles nightforce scope. He is a master toolmaker and makes his ownbarrel clamp stocks from aluminium (action and forward part of the barrel free floating). If you want an excellent entry level gun, the single shot Savage left port right bolt aluminium bedded stock in 223 with a 1in 7 twist barrel is an excellent choice. Use with moly 80 grain sierra or or hornady target projectiles and lapua cases and the gun will be competitive.

Hi,
the T3 lite stock is better quality than the Remmington SPS stock. The SPS metal is usually parkerised rather than blued while the T3 can be blued or stainless, both are push feed, T3 is much smoother in the action. Remington SPS has blind magazine well (no floor plate) T3 has a detachable box magazine. T3 has a much better trigger then the Remington. Out here the T3 and the SPS are about the same money.
T3 for me everytime.

Hi,
this has made interesting reading. My thoughts (having owned numerous firearms and sold over 1000 when I had my shop). Out of the box for accuracy and adjustable triggers - Tikka T3 or Savage with the accu trigger - both extremely accurate. Remington triggers are a pain as are weatherby and howa (same place of manfacture) Dont like newer Sakos with 3 locking lugs (the top lug raceway exposes the back of the case to your face when the bolt is turned down). My personal preferance (if you want to spend) is the RWS Titan. Bolt locks into the back of the barrel, receiver is aluminium and you can change barrels in 10 minutes. Barrels are hammerforged gun is lite and accurate. On a budget though T3 every time.

Hi,
Check this site out
http://www.adi-limited.com/handloaders-guide/equivalents.asp
Varget I believe is made in Australia and rebadged by Hogdon .Over here it is AR2208 and perfectly suitable for 243. If you go to the rest of the ADI site you will find a complete set of loads for all calibres using their powders. I use Benchmark II (which I believe is marketed overseas as Benchmark and AA2015) and AR2206H which is probably the most versatile powder available anywhere. Not sure if 06H is marketed overseas. Out here fullbore and F class standard shooters are restricted to this powder and it does a marvellous job in both 223 and 308. I use 06H in my 7/08, 25/20, 6BR dasher and 223.
Cheers

Hi,
out here I save at least 50%. I use a lot of ammunition and find reloading economical and enjoyable. If you are satisfied with the ammunition you use and dont consume a lot of cartridges then its good to do a calculation as to how long it will take to recover the cost of your setup to see if it worthwhile.

Port Arthur occurred in 1996 , gun buyback in 97/98. Little Johny Howard ( social and environmental vandal) was the Prime Minister. The above post seems to be a little out of date. The firearms industry is flourishing again. Restrictions apply to semi auto firearms and shotguns and also sound moderators. Once you have your firearms licence you can buy whatever your licence entitles you to.

When a cartridge is fired the projectile is accelerated and leaves the barrel with a certain amount of kinetic energy. The rifle gains the same amount of kinetic energy in the opposite direction (recoil) The same projectile acclerated to a lower velocity has less KE hence the firearm has less KE (ie less felt recoil)Semi autos have less felt recoil than say bolt firearms (using the same ammo) because some of the recoil energy is used to cycle the bolt.
Any powerlifters or body builders on this site

Hi Lee,
Ive been back in the gym for a year now, workout is half cardio half weights, went mainly to strengthen left shoulder for archery. Now a 144 arrow fita is no problem, fixed tennis elbow as well. Havent lost any weight just shifted some of it upwards. Im 60 and push a lot more weight around than most of the young blokes in the gym.
