  1. My local shooting permission quarry list has grown on from Rabbits to Crows and Magpies on account of the damage they are causing his business. My prefered shooting has been Rabbits, but I'm happy to help out on the land owners instruction and was happy to take aim on a Crow whilst hidden in the bushes yesterday evening. I watched him unawares fly over and land the top of an old 30ft tree and spent no time in taking aim, exhailing, then despatching him with a HW100 177. to the cranium. With a bit of a flap and an initial 'caw' he flopped down to the ground disturbing the other crows i could not see on the way. Then all hell broke loose... Like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock within about 10 minutes about 50 crows were going mental. I could hear their calls from the other side of the permission (approx a mile?) and the next thing they were circling overhead! To be Fair- I stayed hidden and couldnt retreive the kill through fear of being attacked! Having never shot Crows before I was really supprised to see this sort of behaviour. What was improtant to note was the fact that none of them would land anywhere near the kill zone. It was like the rabbits decided to ****** off on account of all the comotion- so I went home with no supper! Can any one give me more info on Crow behaiviour Cheers peeps
  2. Thanks for the help chap- happy bunny now- (well maybe not...!)
  3. Hello, I was lucky enough to have been bought a fantastic hunting knife recently by my friends and wondered if anyone can give me any tips on sharpening it when the time comes. As its expensive i dont want to damage it and would pay to have it sharpened if needsbe. However for my fold away knife i have a small jack pyke sharpener block. Has anyone used these? One thing i needed to know was do you pass the blade through this in one direction only? is it suitable for a bigger fixed steel Nieto blade? Any help would be really appreciated CHeers
  4. I have owned a HW95 springer for some time and have changed to pre charged hw100s. OMG.... As you would expect from the difference in different firing mechanisms the precharge is unreal compared to the springer. The accuracy is A1 and the rifle has accounted for more rabbitt now than the entire life span of the HW95! In .177 version i find the trajectory obiously less curved than the .22 - and the shot itself quicker. Loading between firing cycles is so quick and easy means i can lay a second target to sleep without the bunny knowing why his mates taking a nap in the grass. Bit heavy- but it in a strange way makes me confident of its build quality. besides i can have a sling fitted at some stage if it causes a problem on long shoots. I love this gun and have now named her Betty. go get one matey

    BSA R10

I am thinking of buying a new BSA R10 people- the chap in gun shop said very honest and told me that the gun has had some issues- so the reports online are of no surprise to me. What i want to know is if the issues have now been resolved and what they are. Surely there are some happy customers if so let me know. Cheers
  6. I have a shoot in wing- if you want to swap for your beds?
  7. Rabbits seemed to have quietend down lately. Spent a whole evening out in last night with no joy again. I didnt even spot one! Is it worth my while cracking on holding out or can anyone recommend a change of tactic when thiing get tough?
  8. Mines in Wing in Bucks looking for something a little closer to Milton Keynes
  9. Cheers Aaron great help mate- using natural i take it that you use branches too?
  10. I have bought a sheet of Jake pyke realtree camo material- the stuff you can see through but wondered if anyone have any tips on how to use it. I had it held up with snapped off branches which was ok but not ideal. Also do you shoot over it or cut a hole in it to shoot out of? In Low light my scope had difficalty seeing through it? Rabbits came out and didnt seem to see me- however how long do you think i should wait before firing? They come out about 3 mteres from burrows- impatientlyat about 40 yards i took a shot and missed and spooked the lot of them. Should i wait longer for an easier/closer shot? Any tips?
  11. Can anyone let me know much about the old badger? Does he upset the routine of mr rabbit spooking him underground or what? My routine hasnt changed much recently and i usually see plenty of quarry. On the last 2 shoots Badgers have been roaming around a lot and I have blanked on both occasions. Lovely to watch- the mad ******s got within 5ft of my position but I dont want him in the pot! Please help
  12. Seems a waste to throw away- anyone have any usefull tips on making stuff from it?
  13. Was out on my 1st night out last night going for Rabbits. WOW what a buzz. One thing my mate had was a nice Lamp kit which I am considering buying now! I noticed one with a Laser (hawke) is this ideal for Rabbit shooting or just a gimmick? I would like to keep the price down but can spend upto £100 if recommended with good reason any ideas anyone. I have a Weirach W95 spring action and a Hawke 3x9x40 Scope if that helps... Many thanks
