At a guess I'd wonder if it had to flap more often to compensate for a reduction in friction.
Good thinking Teal My first thought was, did it reduce its food intake in any effort to compensate for the feather lose. We must think the pigeon is completely stupid, not by a long chalk.
I have seen Gannets at sea throw up all the fish in their gut in order to make an escape when the fishing boats came to close to them on the water.

I am having some work done on the roads at work and I have just uncovered a diesel tank. It contains over a 1000 gallons of diesel which appears to be uncontaminated. Can i put this in my car?
Jim
I would mix it 50/50 with fresh diesel, then give it a go :o

You've done me........................what an earth is a mugwump??
Well my friend, a Mugwump is a bird long in the body that when it sets a fence its mug is one side, and its wump is on the other side.

Whilst on a quite coastal road this morning I spotted a Red Backed Shrike in a hawthorn hedge by the road side.
With all due respects mate, I'm sure the bird you saw was a Mugwump.

Anyone else ever been bitten by a horsefly and had a bad reaction?
Anyone else suffered as a result of these little pests?
Rob.
Over the years in Canada, I have found to "swat" a horse fly is wrong as this tends to inject into your flesh some of the **** in the fly. Try brushing the fly off the bite and then kill it away from the area, it works for me.

I have used them in an old laurona that is quite a heavy old gun you dont notice the recoil difference in that one
My regular gun is an old hammer s/s Boy o Boy do you feel the difference in that one
Thanks Dave K,
You have brought back the memory of the first time I fired a 12 bore shot gun. It too was a hammer ss. I remember I was still going to school at the time, and the stock was far long for me so I could only reach the back trigger (choke) and thats when I learned the meaning of Full choke.

Indeed they do.
And some protection from the god awful weather we had today. The rain was like stair rods.
I spent most of the afternoon in a cowshed.
I rather like your description of rain as stair rods, may I ask if these stair rod were falling end first or parallel. :( almost the same as raining Cats and Dogs
Best regards.

Plastic cases have been around for at least 25 years!!
How old do you want them to be?!!
PP
Nearly 45 years, I reckon!
WAGBI showed off some plastic Eley Maximum at the Game Fair once. Can't remember when, but the first Game Fair I went to was 1969. No, it was 1968 at Stirling!
I have just been on Yahoo, they have a very interesting history of Remington including plastic Carts 1660, was the date of introduction.
Yahoo:- " Remington cartridge history."

I have been reading with interest, and I might say with a smile on my face, the comments regarding the modern shooter and their views on today's cartridge. Have we all become victims of sales talk (science), in a nutshell plain old BS? I really think this is what's happening. Away back when I first started shooting, it was a case of getting what "carts" we could lay our hands on, and I will say with pride, some mighty fine shooting was done with them. Eley was the only ones on the market mostly with number 6 shot these being used on all game no matter what wad was in them. My Grandfather loaded his own carts and cut his own wads with a hammer and punch out of thick felt, and I might add he was an expert marksman in his day, known all over Norfolk for his clean kills, his services being called upon by taxidermists in London and Norwich. Not much science went into the cartridge in those days.
