no i said earlier that i plan to shoot about 200-300 max this will do fine for foxes i think? seems the .223 offers the best all round capability. maybe this and a PES T12 mod on a Tikka t3 and im good to go

using a day scope adapter it is fitted behind any dayscope you wish to use. this converts the normal dayscope into a night vision hunting scope. using a laser you can also extend the range as far as you want

im going by the fact that i use a PVS14 in the field, which is Gen 3 US select alpha tubed night vision. the best money can buy in terms of technology. much better than anything on sale in the UK and Europe. The recoil concerns come from people in america who know about this kind of thing. recoiling weapon night vision tubes are hand selected with large halos so the distance between the film and MCP, Recoil can cause the MCP to bend and voltage damage the tube. and for the sake of a few yards extra range id rather keep in on the safe side. the PVS14 is a monocular design and not a weapon sight but uses the same IIT. when your using kit of this value id rather not risk it. im still not sure what your claiming about range, i can pretty much see as clear as day at night, and my laser increases the viewing range way past anyone can shoot.

so are you telling me that if i mod up a 22-250 then i can get it down to a .223 level? this is very important since i dont want to damage my NV tube.

actually its got nothing to do with any of that. the only thing that will be a pain is heavy rain and i doubt ill want to go foxing in that any way. if i can see 300 yards ie. there is no trees in the way or a building etc then i will see it. then i can shoot it.

200-300 tops? nothing crazy obviously start off with closer ranges and work my way up as i get better. i have been checking some america forums about recoil and a .223 has much less recoil than the 22-250 this might be a deciding factor!

I have just been advised about my NV and recoil is very important. does a 22-250 have much more recoil than a .223? can this be reduced via a moderator?

I currently use this on my rimfire rifles since i dont own a centerfire yet. The PVS14 comes with a 1x lens but you can attach it to the back of a dayscope and use a 20x lens if you like. I use a laser for extending the viewing range behind a dayscope this makes the animals eyes shine and also pretty much makes viewing distance as far as you can see! The technology is currently going for about £4000-£5000 in the UK for local technology from france/netherlands but this doesnt rival the US gen 3 stuff i can get. normally £2600 each for a PVS14, PM me if your interested.

i honestly dont know that much about each one so i wanted to learn what people knew. since they shoot the same bullet head though it seems a bigger case can only be a benefit since i can use as much powder as i like rather be limited to the size of the casing of the .223 but then again there seems to be some very cheap .223 ammo around which could really help when i want to do some practice shooting. i havent honestly decided but what i want isnt always the most practical

it might be a bit up hill to get .243 for my first centerfire. i think it will be a bit easier if i go for .223 or 22-250.

Wow what a debate. Just to fill you guys in, the land is going to be two 5000 acre farms and i will shoot as far as my skill lets me. i use Gen 3 PVS14 night vision and can see pretty much everything out to 1000 yards in the dead of night. Honestly with a bipod i could not tell you what the limits are! the extra range would be nice from the 22-250 and with reloading i could load it up or load it down to what ever speed i need. I wouldnt want to have much more recoil than a 22-250 due to my NV, so .243 would be a little much. The flatter shooting the bullet the better since judging drop is a pain using NV. if i can tame the noise and flash with a top end mod then sounds like a 22-250 will be perfect.

To be honest the whole subject just got me thinking about exactly how dangerous it is really since no one can usualy explain how a falling bullet is as dangerous as a fired one. Reading back the comments of some people they seem to have though about the question in hand and come up with some very clever answers which i applaud. where as others didnt bother to read what i and other people wrote and just went on their mindless rants as per usual. it was designed as a bit of a wind up to be honest and just like clockwork the grumpy old men came out to tell people they know best without actually backing up anything they said. Selective reading is a common feature that i notice where as they read one sentence but not the others and then base what they say on part of what i wrote. - The bit about me using a 22lr to roost shoot before i owned a shotgun was a classic. i actually owned a shotgun way before any firearm, and i personally used a 177 pellet gun to shoot pigeons with before that. Personally im still not convinced that a 22lr 40 grain bullet falling is much more dangerous than a penny dropped off a building. but i wanted to see what other people thought and why. thanks for the people who bothered to add a well thought out opinion.

thats a good point about ricochets, i think the wind would just move the POI just like when shooting a target but like a target in the sky. if you think of the arc from the trajectory after its hit its peak it starts to fall but only with the force of gravity. anyway off to pub! thanks for the opinions

From what i read about the caliber, the 22.250 has a more efficient neck casing allowing the powder to burn in the case and not the barrel and this was one of the reasons for its success. since im using a PVS14 for NV i think i should stick to .223 with less recoil and muzzle flash it will keep my gen 3 in top nick! Also noise is not my friend lol i like a quieter shooting rifle. but i am a junky for speed and power!
