  1. Hi all, if I state on my application that I'm keeping my gun at my club, then later buy a safe next year, will they charge me to come out to see it? Thanks, Leon
  2. Hi, Does anyone have a contact e-mail /phone number? Their website has a few issues Thanks, Leon
  3. Cheers HDAV, great stuff Probably will pick a gun up in a few months- I want to shoot some more!
  4. P.S. I would just like to say the lessons so far have been very helpful, I'm just looking for a way to shoot as much as possible. Sightly OT, but when you fill out a shotgun cert and describe the storage facilities, is it easy to change this if you move house etc.? I presume someone has to come and look at it again...
  5. Thanks again for all the advice, I have just printed out the application form and will get on with it. I hadn't thought having a cert would make a difference. It would be good to get shooting with some another person Leon
  6. Hi all, Thanks for the replies. To fill in some of the gaps I am mid 20s, with no license as of yet (!). I am hiring a Browning 525 at the moment which I seem to be getting on with. I'm going to book another lesson to have a chat about it, and then consider starting the license process as I know it can take a very long time. I have had firearms safety drilled into me from a young age so I am all for safe shooting. I don't seem to know any clay shooters in my area as I've tried a variety of clubs (Churchills, Oxford and Royal Berkshire). Royal Berkshire Shooting School is only a 15 minute drive from me so I'll be the going forwards. Hopefully I will make some contacts there and find some shooting buddies Leon
  7. Hey all, I am aware this is a difficult question to answer, as it depends on the person, but at what stage of a clay shooters development can he/she go practice without an instructor? Just asking as I've been target shooting since I was young and have had 4 formal 1hr clay lessons and a couple of corporate days. I am pretty comfortable with the easier clays and am beginning to shoot from the gun down position. Lessons are pretty expensive so I'd like to find a way to shoot more economically Cheers, Leon
  8. pref .177 but will consider .22 Thanks Leon Edit/Delete Message
  9. yep in Brightwell -just down from Wallingford/Didcot. Could I have the name of the store in Madenhead? Thanks!
  10. Hi- cheers went there today and they tried to fill it but there were some issues: 1. They said the valve was broken as the valve shut when they try to fill it- I think this might be to do with a non-balanced valve? 2. They did not seem too keen with carbon bottles Anything else in the area?
  11. anyone know of any decent places to fill up dive bottles? The place in Didcot closed down
  12. Hi all, Just a quick message to say hi - I am based next to Wallingford (Brightwell) and work near Reading. I've been to Churchills shooting ground and another near Oxford for a couple of clay lessons. Just picked up a FX Cyclone for my birthday thats coming this week after missing my old Webley PCP. I used to be a member of Marlow gun club a few years ago but stopped as headed off to university! Leon
  13. thanks, after a Huntsman classic right now but will keep it in mind
  14. As per title- preferably a Daystate Huntsman Classic in .177 Thanks! Leon
  15. just another quick question- When I get my SGC and rock up with my Browning or whatever, if you pay for a 50/100 sporting does that include some friendly chap who operates the trap for you? I presume most people go out with their buddies.
  16. Thanks- I will get it sent off this week. Might try Royal Berkshire Shooting School next week (as it is only 24 mins from my house) , god I do get around..
  17. Howdy all, As you are all very well informed, I wonder if you could give me some advice! I have had some clay lessons and would like to try and find somewhere I can practice on my own. I don't have a SGC yet, does anyone know somewhere I rent a gun, buy some cartridges and go off to a stand and do this? I would like to shoot more to get some consistency. Thanks, Leon P.S. I have solved my cheek problem, I was resting the comb directly right under my cheekbone! Still, did not shoot great today- my mind wasn't in the zone!
  18. Hi, I would like a cheap cabinet to help my SGC application fly though- I will only have one gun so it doesnt need to be huge! Thanks, Leon
  19. Thanks, just been watching some old footage of professional skeet shooting, those guys are pretty amazing. It is interesting that it may be gun fit, the coach indicated that a Browning seemed to be more suited to me than a Beretta would be due to the shape of the stock giving me a better eye position.
  20. Went to Oxford Shooting School today for a lesson - things are going well. Shot at 75 clays in some different situations (loopers, coming away/towards me, and bouncing along like a rabbit- mostly one at a time) and managed to hit a decent proportion of them (in the 60's). Also, I picked up a SGC application (however, apparently it will take something like 3-4 months to come though- Thames Valley :yp: ). I did find my MacWet gloves helpful and picked up some really useful tips from the instructor. It was good to give a 28" Browning 425 a go and it seemed very 'pointable' if that makes sense. I found pretty easy to handle and more comfortable compared to the Ceasar Guerini from last time. One thing I did notice on the drive home was that driving home my cheek bone hurts-I've had a read and it look like my elbow position could be to blame(?), anyway something to address next time... Good Shooting, Leon P.S. If anyone could tell me what differentiates a trap gun from a skeet gun it would be much appreciated.
  21. Thanks. Churchills is about £145 with C&C's, Bisley is cheaper but a good hour and a half away (might be worth it). I want to get a few more lessons under my belt before I get my own gun- the last instructor said a couple more would do it- The annoying thing is that I have to work today and the weather looks bloody amazing, hopefully it will pay off in the end...Out of my frustration I've bought some Peltor SportTacs which were going for a decent price, not part of my wait and see before I spend any money plan.. Leon
  22. Great thanks for the info. I'm up in bonnie Scotland for a few months in a month -so it may have to wait..However,that doesn't mean I can't sort out the rest of my lessons beforehand to get more confident. No prison time for me at time of writing!! It should be pretty straight forward, It is not as if I will be asking for a Mac10 to shoot clays! Cheers, Leon
