No i am not a beginner, however it would be my first sidelock. As I stated I am looking for feedback from people who may have had one previously. Basically is there anything specific to look out for when buying one, is there anything on them prone to breaking? Also is there much difference between having the detachable locks or not, apart from obviously being able to remove them.

Im looking to buy an aya no2 and wondered what to look out for when looking at a gun, for example how to check the barrels have plenty of life left, also is there much difference in whether they have the detachable lock - is this reflected in the price?
thanks

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a silenced semi auto shotgun as so far i have only been able to find single shot and pump actions. The other option would be to put a silencer on the end of a semi auto barrel but how effective (quiet) would this be and i can also imagine it being very unbalanced.
Thanks Oliver

I went to start my Shogun yesterday morning only to hear the click, click, click of a flat battery.
Now my problem is, will it be a duff battery or a knackerd alternator?
I have re charged the battery and so far its been ok, however if it dies again how do i know if its the battery at fault or the alternator ? I would rather not have to shell out for both if i can help it.
I can arm myself with one of poundlands finest multi meters, but as electrickery is akin to voodoo in my eyes, i have not the foggiest idea of how to test either.
Would one of you kind chaps more versed in the black art please give me a dummies guide ? I would be most appreciative. ( and when i say dummies guide, make it real simple !!)
Thanks in advance
Alex
Its the starter motor if its clicking, same has happened to mine and someone else i know. you can get a new battery and the extra bit of power will just start it but eventually it will just stop starting again until you get a new starter! I think it would turn the engine over a bit but just slowly if the battery was going.

Thats a pretty good price for what i can see

Posing
well actually because as you can see it was on the edge of rolling although it was supporting itself, the rope had slack in it, at the time i wish it was for posing.

That disco has been modified more than you would think, i reckon that has at least a 7 inch + lift, the shock mounts ETC would have been moved to allow for it, the wheel arches would need major mods and to fit a lift of that size would mean many many more mods that you can't see.
and at the end of the day what its driving in is nothing special or challenging.

dont know but he's got a bit of a teapot going on there
haha, I've already had these jokes as its on my Facebook but I'm sure there will be some new ones
-
well I'm not too bothered about arguing but all i know is that from what I've seen discos get stuck too easily and wont do what defenders do! and i wouldn't take a disco 2,3 or 4 off roading if it was mine.
-
a discovery wouldn't keep all wheels on the ground in the 1st pic and wouldn't manage angles in the second!
-

Tosh! A disco is every bit as good as a defender if they have like for like tyres ... You could also trial them as is if you weren't worried about cosmetics! And yes people do Bobtail discos for the shorter wheel base but you get defenders in 110 inch too remember....
I assume you are specifically referring to a defender 90... Even then there are only a few situations where the 10" (or 23" if it's a disco 3) shorter wheel base would make any difference....even then the defender actually has less ground clearence than a disco as standard (245 front and rear vs the disco 3 255 front and 330mm rear)

Gixer
COMPLETE TOSH! I off road my defender and in real off road conditions you can't even compare them. you clearly have no experience of these two cars and certainly not off road! almost as much of a joke as the guy with the ka. discos 1/2s do not have any where near the same clearance or approach angles as a defender and in the mud there is just no comparison. discos that are used off road get scraped in a year or two.
-
I see it as the people that are slagging off the defenders don't really own them or never had, its always a friend had one or 50 friends had them and they are this this and that. seriously people comparing them to a ford ka for off road ability and even a discovery? i don't see how people think that they are speaking sense, defenders will do way more than a discovery, why do you think that any decent off road discovery has to be cut in half (bob tailed) and lifted to the height of a defender for a start to match to them. do you see any standard discoveries off roading or at a trial? and also i feel that some people don't like the fact that they are more expensive that have a status (if thats what you want to call it) than other cars, almost jealousy.
-
why don't you save yourself the money and do the uj's yourself, if its like a defender it can take a while to get the props off but its bloody easy, just a circlip and maybe something else to change the uj.

I have for sale a honda 1900x generator, it starts first pull and is very reliable. it has two power outlets, a 110-130 v, and a 220-240v.
I believe that you can get a lead that you can plug normal power sockets into so that you are able to run normal tools Etc
I am asking £150 o.n.o
-
****a never even thought about those options you think he would sell me it back
could have been yours for £3000
3K for that :o you could have got a lot lot more, one lucky person to get that

ok point taken, i will contact the insurance company and sort the MODS out, I'm not trying to play the big man but you just think why when they cant make that much difference and there are so many idiots doing a lot lot worse on the roads but i will sort it.
-
I look foward to seeing what the new one lookes like, it will either be great ot hated. I wonder what it will do to the price of the defenders when they stop making them
-
all i have to say is i pitty you, you must have a boring life to be so picky and intefere with others. i know people who have roll cages etc fitted and have never had a problem. I dont feel bad when the insurance company is taking over a grand from me and what difference are the wheeles going to make in real life? Not a lot!
enough said to not ruin the thread and the original purpose of it so if you dont have a 4x4 goodbye.
-
what i do is up to me so dont start swearing at me! i bought it like that and did not modify it. the wheels are the only modification that i could really see being a problem and they will be changed in time. I would be more concerned with people who dont bother to insure their vehichle at all. i'm sure i've come accross you moaning about silly things that dont concern you before.
-
Nice landy but be very careful... it has already been mentioned about putting yourself down as a named driver when you are the primary driver but I think what could cause you a problem is modification. Those wheels are not factory spec. Also, if it has had ANY suspension modification or upgrades.
I know this as I have been through the pain with my modified (upgraded suspension) Jeep. The Co-Op wouldn't touch me, ended up with a specific modified vehicle policy through Adrien Flux..
Quote from the Co-Op insurance site....
"The following are NOT ELIGIBLE:
grey imports, emergency vehicles, taxis, buses, trucks, heavy good vehicles, light commercial vehicles, invalid carriers; or
vehicles used for hire and reward (including but not limited to driving schools, courier vehicles, chauffeur services), road racing, tracked days (timed or untimed), rallying, pace-making, speed testing or any other competitive event, breakdown and recovery vehicles; or
any vehicle which has been modified other than in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications; or
any vehicle owned temporarily or otherwise (resulting from trade-in or acquisition for the purposes of resale) by a business formed for the purpose of selling or servicing motor vehicles"
I am planning on changing the wheeles to td5 boost alloys or something similair or something more standard. I dont think that many people declare modifications purely because especially at my age it would be even more impossible to insure it.

can i have second refusal for the roof mounted handle
-
Looks like a nice clean Land rover. One thing though, I'd be extremely careful if this is your car and you are the primary driver. Insurance companies are increasingly wise to this. And as we know will sometimes go to pretty long lengths to avoid payouts.
thats because i had just washed and polished it
that is the reason that it is not in my name and of course i do not drive it as much as the main driver but at the end of the day i cant see them refusing a payout with no evidence but hopefully i will never be in that situation.

this is my new landy, had it 2 weeks. Any young drivers that want insurance for a 4x4 try the co op, im a named driver for £1100, NFU and every where else wanted over 3k.

Thanks for the replies, could anyone tell me about the difference between having the detachable locks or not and whether this would affect the value?
