Well, my interests are varied I suppose you could say.
Country sports - attending country shows, Football - Spending time with the kids (2 down 1 more on the way!).

I Just received permission for my first bit of land but unfortunately there are only about 3 or 4 birds roosting in the grain barn but they are still doing a lot of damage to the place so have got to go - I really hope to get some more permission soon - any help and advice would be greatfully appreciated!

Had a bit of an old landy thing going on for a while and had a 64 Series 2 - complete with resident spiders - but that had to go when the kids came along for a dreaded people carrier.
I used to run the entertainment in a nightclub and got a good few puzzling looks when i used to turn up for work in it with my camo on!

Love TV shows, in particular Rescue Me, Sopranos, Extras, Band of Brothers - basically anything thats American and made by HBO.

Always interested in meeting up with vermin shooters and would love to be asked to meet up with like minded folk for a spot of shooting.

1. Hi there, thanks for all this i have been using the air rifle. the shots were - 1st in the throat - about a1/4 below the beak straight on - the second was through the back in the middle of the wings. shot some like this before and never had a problem with the rifle - just wondering about my angles now and re-zero'd the scope incase the shots were off and the pigeon was caught by a reboundfrom the metal backstop. wasnt that though and it would have been some fluke if the sight was off and the pellets happened to strike almost exactly where i was aiming by a rebound! Most probably my year old gun has decided to throw pellets like i can spit gum! thanks for all the advice! stu ps - i do not chew gum and cant spit it very far!
  2. I was out today - i have a .22 gamo 55 cal single shot and noticed that the pigeons were not falling as cleanly as i would have liked (one flew into a crate and broke it's neck after being shot and another had a 10 foot crawl to a horrid death stuck between some cow grates). When I retrieved both birds they were both taken with marks that would normally cause instant death. I am shooting prob 25ft to the roof of a barn. Do you think the gun is requiring repaired? Should I change to a gas powered gun (not FAC?) Is there a good gas gun for under £200? Does the gas cost a fortune and can you get a gas 'repeater'? so many questions! Thanks Stuart
  3. Yeah, such a lovely bird - flew by the bright orange lamps a few times and it's feathers were glowing! Such agility in the air as well - it swooped and swerved over my head a few times - majestic! As I was driving away I saw a huge Hawk of some kind sitting on a fence post also, no more than 10 ft away. such a pleasant morning!
  4. ...would like a shooting buddy? Ideally woodies, ferals, squirrel, rabbit, rat - anything that is giving someone some problems and involves the outdoors! I am a responsible, safe shot and would dearly love to help others with their pest control! Anyway if anyone knows of somewhere or can point me in the right direction of a board in my area it would be gratefully appreciated! Many thanks Stuart
  5. I'm pretty sure they were woodies - they had the white collars. I'm new to this malarky however so I might be wrong. I just hope that there are more to follow because it is my first bit of shed i have been given permission to shoot at and it was quite enjoyable! even had to 'roll' under a stuck metal door to get the shot off! To those i missed above.... MY GUN IS A GAMO 55cal .22 any advice on outright killing distance with this gun would be greatly appreciated as i am not into wounding and having to chase after the poor fella flapping away - like any respectable shooter i want to kill without any pain. thanks! stu
  6. Hello all, Thanks for the help - went up this morning and found two of them - checked the pellet situation by firing a 'tester' into the roof - which flustered them and got them both sitting up. The pellet just ricoched so i new it was ok to progress (it is metal all round with no wooden backstop so i had to be carful of bounce back) Got my first woodie with my first shot using a beat up car as cover! out like a light which was great! the other one hid then sat great but someone kept banging the barndoor and it kept moving. Went into another shed and here was another few - not sitting at all well for a shot though. then it all went eerily quite. next thing i now a kestral had joined me in the barn so all the pigeons ******** off! Still - leaves more for the next trip and hopefully the kestrel will have a nice meal also! PS it might just have been a couple of woodies but they have been there for ages and you should see the mess they have made - they had to go.
  7. Hi - there is scattered grain all throughout so i fear baiting would be a wasted effort. Do you think the pellet would make daylight through the roof? Theres only 3 or 4 pigeons but they are crapping allover the guys machinery and rusting it up bigstyle - i would rather 'in and out' with this one than sitting around for 3 days for 4 pigeons! If I scare them with the starter would they be likely to fly out the door? or simply settle somewhere else. They have not been shot at before.
  8. I live near Dundee - is there any farms or like minded people who could help a relative newcomer rid the fields of bugs and rooks, the trees of greys and their barns of pigeons?? Ta Stu
  9. hi there, have had a guy let me rid his barn of pigeons but having seen them they are very keen on sitting right next to the iron roof. Although this does give me a great 'sitting duck' shot I have been told to avoid shooting them there as the pellets will damage the roof. Will a .22 vermin pellet punch a hole in a grain shed roof? I think differently but any advice would be greatly recieved. Also - if the roof proves to be a big no no how can i get them into a better position for a clean shot? Starter pistol to startle them and hope they settle somewhere else? Thanks Stu
