  1. Last minute as in tonight? If so they have probably ordered meat, veg etc in extra staff and possibly refused other bookings to be able to accommodate your party.

Same day cancellations with my work incurs a 100% fee to be paid. 48 hours no charge.

  2. Haven't posted on this thread before I don't think but regularly check it. What a cracking build and detailed thread Viking. From what I have seen and read so far there's some great and generous genuine members on here who have assisted in one way or another.

Can't wait to see it all built up and running but in a way I'm enjoying seeing it progress and don't want it to end for a while.

Best of luck with the rest of the build. Oh and don't start on a montessa 414. Mates did one 2 years back. Took him aaaaages to source the relevant parts he needed with the fuel tank coming from America and costing in excess of £500.

  3. Milwaukee from now on here. Had dewalt, makita, Hilti all sorts. Dewalt was dire at holding a charge. Makita was good but the batteries don't last long enough and motors burn out. Hilti... Never again. 4 chargers, 3 batteries on one drill in 12 months. The Milwaukee gear I have now is fantastic. I have 6 X 5ah batteries all due to upgrade to 9ah soon. Serious gearboxes that power through anything I ask. The impact took the rusted wheel nuts off an old tractor and drive 100 thunderbolts a day in. Absolutely brilliant. Not a fan of the trigger on my grinder though but again, performs flawlessly.

  4. I have the new shape transit custom limited and have to say it's been fantastic so far. Comfy to drive, easy to park, seriously shifts even when loaded and looks very smart. I'll be ordering another next year if this ones anything to go by.

  5. Morning all. We've got a little dilemma on our small building firm and just after your thoughts and knowledge. I've been on this family firm since I left school (13 years) and did a carpentry apprenticeship. I'm one of 2 chippys (boss is a chippy but doesn't work on tools now) and the other is the bosses brother. Now we are all on the cards except the decorator who is self employed but has worked for us 6 years straight everyday. He can do a bit of plastering, the odd bit of plumbing and electrics which is not very often at all and isn't qualified in any trade. Over the last 2 years he's been wanting a better deal and has asked to go on the cards but on the same money he gets SE, asked for a van whilst staying SE, and has now asked for Holiday pay whilst staying SE. He gets £110 a day as it is which I know isn't a lot. He gets more than me but obviously I get a van and hols. Now he was moaning to me the other day he wants to go on the cards again bearing in mind when my boss said to him about a year ago he can go the cards but will have to have less money he said no. I worked with him the other day and he was going on about it and how he's going into the bosses office when he gets back off holiday and putting a deal on the table and if he die at get it he's going. We've been through this before and he's stayed. He wants either to go on the cards and keep to £110 a day or stay self employed and get holiday pay. He won't get either and that's a fact as he's been told by the bosses brother he can't earn more than me. Now the point I want you to give me your opinion on is that when I said to him that in both of his deal offers he would be earning more than me his words were 'to be honest,I think I'm worth more than you'. Yes it got my back up but I didn't bite. He classes himself as a 'multi trader' but what defines that? I'm a chippy and Been told I'm pretty decent at it but I can also tile roofs and do other work so does that class me as one? Silly situation but just interested to know?

if he's worked self employed for 6 years straight everyday then he shouldn't be self employed. Sure he and the company are breaking current inland revenue regs. I'm not 100% sure and don't have a link but thought you could only do 10/11 months or something? £110 a day providing your own van etc isn't much at all. I sub to 5 different companies and charge a fair bit more than that but my jobs quite specialist as there isn't too many in the country that can do my job to the level I do. The lad that works for me hasn't been on any courses as yet but still pulls £130 a day and I make £70 a day on him. He knows his job well though and if needed I can leave him on the job to carry on if I nip out for something. He also gets a bonus each week if we have a good week. I firmly believe if I look after him and he enjoys what he does he will be less likely to moan when we get the odd job that's a chore. He hopefully will be less likely to start looking for other jobs. Hopefully. Pay people what they are worth, look after them and they are likely to stay with you through thick and thin or slate the company in private to clients.
  6. Thanks for all the replies.

None of the shotguns are for sale nor the cabinet etc. All will be passed to her son for his 18th birthday as he was very close to his grandad. In the meantime she is sorting out a shotgun licence once everything else is in order with the house and his care.

I also have an update regarding the situation.

This comes direct from the police too.

She has to enter the details of his shotguns on my licence as on long term loan. I fill in his feet as loaned over too. She then needs to return his licence back to the firearms team and details / copy of her lasting power of attorney certificate. We both then need to write in to the police stating why they have changed hands and why he hasn't been able to do so. With my covering letter I need to send in a stamped return addressed envelope and the actual power of attorney certificate. Once they have that and all the details they will return the certificate asap.

I have taken possession of 3 shotguns in total. None that I know of by name. An alpha single shot. An unknown .410 and a marrow sbs 12g. Sadly all are suffering from some neglect so I've offered to do my best to restore them to their former condition as best as possible.

Thanks for all the comments. Hope the info helps someone else out in the future should they happen across similar circumstances.

  7. In terms of actual property - as she has power of attorney - she can dispose of assets, but she is not the licence holder.

Ring your local Firearms Department and get proper advice.

her not been the licence holder is what had me wondering too Gordon. The issue we have is the licence runs out today and I only got asked after my local department was closed for the day. I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow though but don't want her to have the shotgun/s confiscated or incur a fine either way if possible. Cheers.

    Wots he got

no idea as yet. It's an excellent excuse though to buy a second cabinet for myself though as explain to the missus its for storage. ;)
  8. I don't know is the honest answer.

However, if I was the girlfriends position with power of attorney in the circumstances you mention I would happily sign them onto your certificate and notify the certificate holders COP of the transfer and enclose a letter stating the circumstances as to why I had completed the transaction. I would also enclose the now,out of date certificate.

The police will be happy that the guns are now safe with a certificate holder.

cheers Charlie. Pretty much what I was planning on doing. I don't know anybody who's been in a similar position so thought I'd ask on here. Thanks again for the prompt reply.
  9. Hi all,

Just wanted to pick your brains if possible. My brother in laws girlfriends father is a shotgun licence holder but has finally been taken into care as he has a debilitating mental illness he isn't going to recover from.'Girlfriend ' has lasting power of attorney over him now and is looking to sell the house to pay for the best care possible. When sorting things out she found his cabinet in the loft and eventually the keys. She doesn't have a licence or know anybody that does apart from me.

I have agreed to put them on my licence on long term storage/ loan etc. I don't know as yet what they are or how many yet. They have found his licence this afternoon and it actually runs out today.

My main question though, can she sign them over to me herself off his licence if she has full power of lasting attorney? I've been away from a phone signal today so missed her calls until I got back too late to call my fao to check.

    Thanks in advance.

  10. Wow! What a truly awful day for you all. I sincerely hope everything is ok for your better half and you. Makes my miserable day pale into insignificance.

Take comfort in the fact she knew who you were when she saw you and the doctors are working their hardest to help her.

You both have my best wishes and I hope her recovery is a swift and short one.

  11. Canal mills hillhouse lane just off Leeds road

Thank goodness for that. Had a horrible feeling you were going to say direct. Service is poor, slow, prices constantly going up etc. Been waiting 3 weeks for them to get me a price for an alarm system and they still haven't got me a price for an illuminated bellbox. You're only 5 minutes away on Leeds road so will call in when I next need to restock.
