  1. I have a 12 bore side by side shotgun which was given to me, and i believe it to be Austrian and apparently it was swapped during the war by the person who gave it to me for a camera.

I have all the numbers and details of it but am struggling to date it!

If anyone knows about it then I would be very grateful of any knowledge given on it!

On the underside of the trigger guard, it says FERLACH, GMF, AUSTRIA

on the barrels it says: BOHLER-BLITZ STAHL (believed to be the steel used for the barrels)

on the barrels: 12/70 (believed to be the gauge and chamber length)

    On the barrels: 38/1207

IT also has on the barrels a 'W' letter with a ring around it, and also the letters NPF in a formation of the N and P being large next to each other, and the F being small under the P.

It also has what looks like to be an eagle with outspread wings.

And there are a few numbers on the the stock where the barrels meet: 1728.53

It would be very interesting to know how old it is and whether it is worth anything.

    Thanks Sam

  2. I dont know if any of you saw this in shooting times, where the guy shot over enormous decoys, which concluded in him not being sure as to how effective they were. Was wondering if anyone else has tried huge decoys with any success clearly due to the decoy? :hmm:

  3. i thought it was time to replace my old decoys, which were a mish mash of different shades of grey, and different shapes and sizes for the 3/4 shells on sprung sticks! Noticing the difference already with more confident birds coming in! :good:

  4. what exactly is the uv paint supposed to do to the pigeon and does it seem to be successful in drawing in birds?

Also, has anyone ever had any noticeable changes for the worse in decoying as a result of using the Uv paint?

    Cheerss

  5. I suppose you're right about it being easier to combine. To my untrained eye, it looks really healthy, but just shorter. Whether the ears are smaller or the seeds not as fat,I don't know, but I do know that the farmer wasn't too happy about it. He definately said his yield would be down, and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. He is a very wealthy farmer, so he must be doing something right.

Its very short around me, due to the drought, and obviously, there is fewer seeds in each ear and each ear is shorter too as a result. However, the pigeons seem very keen on dropping in the wheat where it is only a foot or so high on the sandy soils. I'm tempted to give it a go soon: but being in the middle of a field, I'm not sure how to tackle it. Do you think just setting up a normal hide in the middle of the field on a hill will work?

  6. do people actually think that the Uv painted decoys actually make a huge difference.

im interested in whether they work and dont know if they a re worth buying.

i am getting reasonable bags at the moment and so cant see them increasing the bag much.....

    what do you think?

  7. lots of pigeons about on two near fields of swathed rape and was excited as theres not much rape about that has been swathed yetwent out yesterday and they just werent comitted to come in

only ended up with 20 or so

their crops were full with just as much wheat as rape

we have a small laid patch and i will give that a try allthough there havnt been many on it at all

whats having the best results at the minute?

il have to work during harvest so i wont be able to shoot when the fields are just doen which is normally the best time!
