    imo the 17 hornet factory savage or cz are not .25 moa rifles.i had one factory ammo was hard to beat at .75 moa. 5 shot groups with my home loads where about .50 .plenty of tiny 3 shot groups but not consistent .but it had no trouble rabbiting at 300 yards .with the tiny bullets if you get the shooting 2.5 " at 300 the wind will allways be why you miss.i had to just accept it and just enjoy it for what it was.mine was a cz american so light barrel that i don't think helped.i think bedding the stock might help too but it can get silly and spoil the fun.

    G'day Mike, hope you are keeping well.

    I still have your old Cz 17 Hornet and getting on well with it. I swapped the factory stock for a Bell and Carlson with the aluminium bedding block which transformed the way it handles.

    It turned out it didn't really like the 20gn Vmax bullet as it was the least accurate bullet I tested but it shines with Bergers. Once with those it isn't fussy with powder so I'm using Lovex D063 for max velocity.

    The wind does take the little bullets about twice the drift of a 223, so that's the excuse I always use!

    I have a set of 1" Sako Optilock ring mounts, blued in good used condition that I'd like to swap for your version of the same in 30mm. Please note, these are the one piece mount version of the Optilocks, not the more usual two piece base and ring setup. These mounts are much lighter than the two piece combination, and can accommodate scopes up to 50mm depending on barrel weight. Also on other forums.

  9. dumping shot foxes on public roads

    I'm sure it's not a local thing but the number of foxes lying on public roads - no crush injuries but a centre fire hole in the chest. Are these guys doing the dumping that dumb to expect the police to believe they are road accidents? all it needs is an accident caused by the fox for the police to check out the local centre fire FAC holders - then they could claim the fox was shot on a public road?.

     

    I have seen foxes dumped half way around bends, I often stop to move them to prevent accidents - what's wrong with dumping them in the hedge?

     

    I live in North Oxon too, and have seen plenty of roadkill and assumed it was literally just that. I'll stop (where safe!) and check next time...

    Latest model with Lotutec and 42 Reticle, brand new in box with all paperwork, including receipt and UK warranty. I bought this a few months ago from Sportsman Gun Centre for a stalking rifle project that never materialised. I'll open the box and take photos for interested parties.

    The only thing that worries me is that you say you like the range work - how many rounds have been through it and does it still group.

     

    Also, did you buy it last year from new?

    I bought it new last March, and it has only shot 120 rounds in total. I'm selling as I am going to buy a target rifle as I intend to get into range work (I haven't joined Bisley yet). With care I can hold around 1MOA and I'm no marksman, so a better shooter should beat that.

    20" fluted barrel, detachable twin stack magazine, synthetic stock, Ilfalon coated metalwork, three position safety, adjustable trigger with extra set option, integral Weaver bases. ABS case included with instructions and tools. Scope and mounts shown not included.

     

    I bought it new March 09, so it's not even a year old. It has been on one trip to Arran where it accounted for a nice Red calf at just over 220 yards.

    I've had it threaded 1/2" UNF and proofed by Neil Mckillop (Dasherman), with 11 degree target crown. It has been correctly broken in and meticulously cleaned after every outing, and is great condition. I'm selling it as I find it a bit too short and light for range shooting.

     

    Naturally, I'll get a bad deal on a shop trade in, so am only asking £595 for a quick sale whilst my variation paperwork is with TVP. (£200 less than the unthreaded version for sale on Guntrader!).
