  1. Had a great day yesterday big thank you to claysandgame who bought along his lovely lab Percy who worked so hard all day! we managed 25 pheasants and 1 pigeon for the day. Couldn’t have hoped for better given that no birds are put down in this farm. Great to catch up with family and friends and make new ones. Farmer was very happy and even gave us some deer stalking to be getting on with. Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback I’m glad I posted on the forum as it achieved exactly what we were hoping, help from a great dog, a new friend and shooting buddy and a great day out for everyone involved. 2. Thanks for the positive feedback everyone, I’m glad the majority of people are taking the post as it is intended
  3. Appreciate that thanks that’s how I thought about it, when my dog was a bit younger I would have been over the moon to join a day like that and get the opportunity to shoot and get some work in for my dog. Like you said it always leads to making new friends and with that more shooting opportunities. My friends and I do a lot of pigeon and crows for different farmers and all met through shooting
  4. Interesting take , although I had just thought given the cost of shooting these days some might feel that it was a good deal to join us in exchange for working there dog, as like I said I have recently had to have mine put down and them bringing a gun certainly wasn’t secondary I was merely pointing out that if they preferred to just work their dog and not shoot that that was fine. Providing lunch and drinks as well just thought it was a nice offer .
  5. I think your right, I have literally asked so many shooting friends and they are all beating , picking up or shooting
  6. Still nothing yet which to be honest I am quite surprised about. Going to really struggle without a dog!
  7. I live in Tiverton Devon and a local farmer friend asks us every year to come and have a walk around the farm to shoot the pheasants that build up in numbers and mess in the cattle feed. Due to my dog recently passing away we are looking for some one to join us on Saturday 27 th who has a working dog that can flush the birds out of cover for us, we will be around 4 or 5 guns, if your thinking of replying you are welcome to shoot as well or if you prefer to just work the dog both is fine. Lunch provided (safe shooters only please)
  8. Nothing worse then trying to find land! that's why I cant understand my mates they claim to b mad keen but never want to go out, I have worked so hard to get all my permissions im offering it to them on a plate so to speak and no one is committed. Just wish I had been offered it like that when I first started. so true
  9. No worries .thought that counts. lol
  10. hey nick, its roughly 15 mile heading north on the m5 past Exeter junction 27. cheers chris
  11. Hi folks, so peed of trying to get mates to come out lamping with me! I remember when I first started if I was invited out after Charlie or bunnie bashing nothing could of stopped me now all I get is excuses no body is ever up for it. I live in the tiverton area if anyone close is as keen as I am I have plenty of ground and could really do with some help with the lamp and shooting I struggle trying to juggle the lamp and the rifle and besides its difficult to get motivated on your own. cheers .
  12. Hi people, I am hoping to get my 243 variation soon and I have got to thinking about bullets .Can anyone suggest a weight and brand of bullet that would suit mainly roe but red as well I am thinking about a howa 1500 not sure what twist rate is on them and what difference that would make. cheers chris
  13. cheers folks, you guys are a wealth of knowledge I think I will have to just wait and see time will tell. Kent, I know what you are saying if I am pushed think I will just shop the 22 for the 243 they always seem extremely keen for you to give up a firearm and at the end of the day the 243 can do everything the 22 250 can do and more.
  14. I think it would be very unlikely that the ground would be unsuitable when I applied for my fac one of the lands I put down was in my opinion a bit dodgy but they didn't even go look at it .
