Horses for courses
As is so often the case. What once was considered acceptable practices, has now been shown to be flawed. Time and understanding moves on.
Don't get me wrong. I m in favour of a badger cull, and I have no problem with what was done in the past. I just believe that what was done then should be left in the past, and we should adopt better, modern methods of dealing with the problems.

What can one say but good luck.
Whats £60 these days? Most lads I know can spend that and more on a night out.
Factor in your time and the buggeration element when the thing fails and you've had to repair or replace it twice over before you decide to scrap the darn thing it and buy a window bag and you'll been quids in. The enjoyment of making things can work out more expensive than you first imagined.
Hopefully we all live and learn. Some just take longer than others.

Gamebore 32g Impact3" 3's for geese and 5's for duck. Not cheap but they certainly do the business.
Give Charlie a call at Just Cartridges he was doing a half price delivery deal at the Game Fair.

Never eaten Billy Hams then chap?
Nope
I'm all in favour of eating what you shoot or catch. But there is a limit to just how far I'm willing to go to maintain that.
-
What's wrong with that?
Where does one start?

I like Badgers too, braised slowly in a thick sauce.
Roasted in tinfoil is also another way to enjoy them, then when cold thinly sliced in sandwiches with a pickled onion.
My goodness that takes me back a long time, way before I was married. I doubt my wife would even let me bring one into the house these days, even if they did change the law.
Eddie
Considering they are one of the prime harbourers of bTb I would be that enthusiastic about the idea of bunging another one in the bottom oven of the Rayburn these days.

Iv just got a 10/22 and i dont know what to make of it.
Its very cheap feeling made mainly of plastic which I dont like at all.
Iv tried a 25 round butler creek mag a hot lips!!!! I dont know why they sell them as the gun struggles to shoot 5 rounds with out a jam.
Shoots ok with standard Ruger mag though.
I wonder if its worth spending a few quid at SYSS and getting to some go faster bits?
Anyone one here use one?
Best bit of bit of advice I can offer...............is.
You should have brought one already worked over by the lads at NWCP or RFD, and then drop it in a Hogue stock. It works out far cheaper in the end and you end up with a decent .22 S/A

Ill give you that one fella,i couldnt agree more.
I see you're getting ever more desperate.Sad and very predictable.
I'll have toleave you to your own devices Dave. My dinners on the table.

Follow the link to Equifix off my earlier post or try your luck at www.shootingbags.co.uk

I think most sane folk would disagree with you and say you are inclined to be funny.
Thats very kind of you. But I'm still not that way inclined, and I'm definitely not interested.

Some low life's will pinch anything.
I hope all the publicity helps get her back .
Selena Masson of the Shooting Time got her Cocker spaniel back after it had been stolen 13 months earlier.
I'll leave you to figure out who had stolen him in the first place.

You will be ok with your mirror though fella as your 50cc mopeds will be lower than mine. :yp:
Your funny,i like you a lot.
Sorry pal I'm not that way inclined.

So how would you solve the problem ?
Believe me the golfing crowd have been tring to resolve this one for years and have never come up with a viable solution.
At the end of the day you can only legislate to a certain degree. After that you have to rely upon the individuals honesty, morals and ethics.
We all know what happens to those 3 things when money gets put into the equation.

I dont understand whats wrong with just using the wing mirror to lean on rather than twisting in the seat !
The main problem with using the wing mirror is it only allows for a small arc of ground to be covered. If the target moves out of that small arc you have no choice but to move the vehicle. With a window rest bag from Equifix or a well designed window rest like the one sold by Arthur Carters. Not the mickey mouse sort cobbled together by Sako and his brother. You get a fair wider arc of ground covered and a more stable and more comfortable rest if parked up and sat waiting on a particular vantage point.
Having said that I still use the wing mirror if the need or opportunity arises. Horses for courses.
There's no price that can be put on experience.

Right, here goes. You stated the pipe will fail but now its the bends??Please decide which. On to your eyesight seeing the rest bending.Try specsavers. There is a bit which possibly looks bending, but its in fact soldered offset to level up the cradle and give a bit of vertical adjustment. Its no wonder yours failed when you didnt think things out properly.
ROTFLMAO
If it bends it fails. Sorry if its getting too technical.
Still you'll find out soon enough if you give it enough use. I guess some people only learn by doing it themselves.
Having been there, and done it.I think I've even seen the video and worn the T shirt, we have moved firmly over to using the window bag rests as posted. We definitely won't be going back to using plumbers copper pipe and soldered fittings .

You think some CPSA shooters are working the old score card flanker you should take a look at the golfing comps.
There have always been high single figure handicappers who are in reality scratch golfers. Its been going on since the day they invented the game mate same goes for clay comps.

Well, who knows...his various other comments whilst inquisitive have been more derogatory - but its a free world I guess. I'll continue answering constructive questions as best I can for now. Kindest.
Enough said.

couldn't be further from the truth
Oh,I believe you Alex.

I thought I had answered the questions regarding the possible/potential failure. Admittedly in a some what brief manner. I didn't anticipate that you would require a detailed explanation.
Here goes.
The major flaw/weakness in your rest is the design and materials used for the central pivot point. As you have a high point loading focused on the most critical element. You'll find that the mouth of the bottom 90deg T will bell out with usage. There by increasing the point loading on the short spigot on the cradle. Eventually either the spigot or the 90deg T will deform. If you look at the photo of the rest where the rifle is sitting in the cradle you can see the rest already bending.
As I said copper tube has insufficient wall strength. Hence we changed to gas pipe. It also allowed us to incorporate a bearing into the pivot rest assembly.
Our final design worked trouble free for over 4 years. Perhaps yours will last longer, who knows.

Can you explain exactly what kind of flexing your copper was doing to cause it to fail? As a plumber of 28 years i can't see any reason how the copper on this rest will fail. Can you point out the bits on the pictures where the problems are likely to occur.
See my reply above.

Nice sales pitch fella.
Could you tell me how an 8 inch length of copper "fails" as that is the longest piece that has any load bearing on it.Does it start leaking as im not worried about that, but for it to bend or crease you would need a great weight instead of a rifle sitting on it.Your bag is ok,but you still have the movement, noise and time of raising the rifle from its position onto the bag, whereas it sitting in the cradle means very minimal movement, and for that reason,im out.
No sales pitch. I have nowt to do with the manufacturers.
Our experience was that the thin walled copper piping you have used in your design would inevitably fail at the pivot/bend points. IIRC we went thru 3 design changes before we ditched the copper pipe and went over to the gas pipe.
There is little or no movement required when using the window bags. You simply rest the rifles fore end on the bag and drop the butt of the rifle into your lap. If you need more or less elevation, something difficult to achieve with your cradle design, you just raise or lower the window. Simples!
Perhaps your design will work out for you.

dissapointing show imo. They need to change the displays/events they do as it was identical to last year. Hardly any decent deals on guns, gunmakers row seems to be very small now. :(
When you take into account the depth of this 4th year of the recession and the astronomical costs involved in taking and manning a stand at the CLA these days. I was pleasantly surprised to see as many retailers and distributors as there where on Gunmakers row. It would also explain the glaring lack of decent price deals being offered. Even if you offered the seller hard cash in the form of crisp £50 notes. Still their loss is another retailers gain.
However I found the fishing village retailers a far more ready to do a deal than any of the retailers on gunmarkers row.
At least some retailers/manufacturers are still commercially aware and I did manage to find a good deal on a couple of firearm and fishing items.
Just a shame I couldn't do the same with the game feed people.

Totally up to the job.All soldered and very strong. The actual cradle is positioned so the weight is pretty well dispersed.
I hope you're right. A friend and I had a go at something very, very similar about 10 years ago. We eventually found that standard copper pipe doesn't have sufficient wall thickness to stop it flexing and eventually failing. We ended up using steel gas pipe in the end. Once we realised that the extra weight involved isn't really an issue. We made 2 up. 1 for each window. They worked reasonably well and were only scrapped when the vehicle was changed.
We now have these instead

At least some of us have an understanding the problem and the possible practical solutions.
For others, as always ignorance is bliss.
