  1. In the States, most birds are released as adults. This is generally done by commercial hunting preserves, so the economic/hunter satisfaction payoff is obvious.

Here's my question, what kind of survival rates do you get when releasing 6-8 week poults?

    Thanks,

  2. They must be illegal, cos, I was at the Del Mar gun fair, and didnt see a single one for sale...meant to ask about them, but was too agog to remember, as there was a sale on Garrand M1 Carbines, seems almost everyone had one over their shoulder...LOL....and they make moderators illegal?? ...:)

They require a conversation/filing with the FBI/ATF (MI5?), a "tax stamp" and a gunsmith that actually knows what one is. You are easily talking $2k US when it is all said and done. You can buy a lot of hearing protection for that kind of hassle.

BTW, the gov't sells us M1 Garands as part of the Civilian Marksmanship Program....hence the profuse numbers you saw.

  3. Welcome Bluestem, love abit of walked up or rough shooting.

Always get the impression that shooting is a little easier stateside? than over here, where we need landowners permission or have to pay out for expensive driven days.

Here in the central US we are pretty blessed with public lands that have wild bird populations. Private land access is a challenge anywhere, but one can usually get access if they are polite and persistent. Frankly, the public ground is good enough that I don't spend a lot of time running down private access.

Someone mentioned coyotes, yes we have them along with red fox and an assortment of other fur-bearing nest raiders...the worst of which are skunks.

    Thanks for the welcome.

  4. Hello fellow hunters. I've lurked for awhile, but wanted to join in the discussions and learn about hunting in Britain. Here in the States, I basically hunt behind wire-haired pointing griffons and pursue snipe, mourning doves, sharp tailed grouse, prairie chickens, pheasant, quail, jump shoot waterfowl of various sorts and stumble the occasional Hungarian partridge. In addition to that I guide on a preserve from time to time where the focus is pheasants and chukars.

My hunting is done on public and private ground in Nebraska, North and South Dakota.

I believe this is all considered rough shooting or walk up hunting in your parlance.

    Greetings to all,
