  1. After a long absence from the forum and following a recent request for a copy of an owner's manual a couple of updates... I am still shooting my DAs at clays... I have no experience using "steel" (ie. soft iron) shot but have seen posts from users successful with open choked barrels.... 67 mm. cartridges will not cycle the 2nd shot. So far I haven't found the design for an insert to allow the use of shorter cartridges. 32g (1 1/8 ounces) loads would be ok... The old link for the pdf manual is redundant but I still have the file available.
  2. reference the above .... https://www.facebook.com/westlandsactivity?ref=profile
  3. Update since the last post...the facility came under new ownership in May and the clay ground is undergoing extensive improvement and well worth a visit. It's open 7 days/week, handy for midweek practice. Details are on their new Facebook page...
  4. ptrangmar, I would be interested in a pic of the insert for the shorter cartridges if you can post one up. I was aware that the model could be had with a modification to fire 55 mm. (unfired length) short cartridges, which is mentioned in one of the owner booklets I posted online. They would have been to special order when buying new and there's probably very few about. To prevent confusion I didn't mention that in my previous posts but I wanted to explain how the mechanism operates. Anyone with modest engineering skills could adapt a 70mm to feed 65mm (fired lengths) but would have to design it so as to prevent fouling the action.
  5. Tempted to give you a call....meanwhile....while I'm thinking about it.... the dimensions quoted should refer to the choke restrictions in inches obtained by comparing the actual nominal bore with the minimum internal choke diameters ...there is some leeway in interpretation but refering to the chart would agree with johnlewis's figures.... 6. Not looking for any particular parts, but a spare gun as a back-up source for spares should I need any for my D.A. Standard and 2 Twelvettes. Cosmetic condition is unimportant.
  7. I am looking for a neglected or damaged or non working example of one of these 2-shot semi autos and/or barrel(s) to keep for spare parts (Cumbria/Borders area prefered). Also still on the lookout for a Winchester Model 50 or 59 ....
  8. try these ........ http://www.arco.co.uk/products/3B3000/293087/Bolle+Contour+Spectacles
  9. Recently added another pdf owners booklet here (a different version from my previous upload)..... https://files.acrobat.com/preview/e20fc2ed-dd57-4792-96ee-fcb441904d29 ....... follow link to download a copy.......
  10. Looks tidy...squared off forend indicates latter production....just for reference what was the price paid? (if you don't mind me asking)
  11. Out of interest I saved a Browning 2000 owners booklet here (sorry Scully) ........ https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=PxP88sQ4M9haUMTbP*1Ttg and one for the Winchester 59 here ....... https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=RGLVE2EiqOUIdeqCvVh5tg I'm looking out for a Winchester Model 50 or 59 http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/236290-winchester-model-59;-model-50/ there's no comparison with the Double Automatic but they're of an interesting design and another gun that lost out to gas operation ......
  12. I saved a copy of the owners booklet here ...... https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=32Es7sMfMSKlRwa8DvoC8g which you can download (if it doesn't work pm an email address and I can attach a copy). The original document was a single sheet folded to give 6 pages on one side and an exploded parts list on the other. Jigsaw the parts pages together to form the diagram (one page was copied skewed). The booklet refers to the Standard and Lightweight (Twelvette) models but still applies to the "Twentyweight".. I think Val Browning's rationale was to design the Double Auto as a self loader to compete with the traditional double barrel s.b.s. or o/u. Obviously it's a 2 shot with weight, balance and handling approaching a double, particularly the lightweight "Twentyweight" at a shade over 6lb. in weight ...
  13. Read all my posts here ........ http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/213863-browning-double-auto/ and the links off them. I'm always interested to hear of these guns. Pics of yours would be welcome. Is your action engraved with "Twentyweight" or "Twelvette" or plain? The Browning 2000 is gas operated the Double Automatic cycles using a short-recoil action their only similarity is the "Browning" name although the 2000 has the "speed load" feature where the cartridge is loaded through the port in the left side of the action frame... Fairly uncommon, only about 67000 manufactured between 1955-1971.... They did not become popular particularly in the American market where the 2 shot capability and the introduction of gas operated semi autos (Remington et al) limited their appeal. Can send other info if you wish including a pdf copied owners booklet (or follow my link from the above) ...
  14. Sent an enquiry to you about this via gun watch...is it still available? Thinking about traveling from Cumbria for a viewing ... reading your post above I take it there's no flexibility on price ...
  15. OK .... Pics of mine ... both are Twelvettes; the grey dates pre -1958; the black 1961 ... (the sbs is a Webley "Screw Grip" BL.NE. "Made Expressly for G. P. Graham Cockermouth" on the rib
