  1. Ive a nikko sterling nighteater 30mm 4-16x50 and theres never been a shot I couldn't take with the hmr on it. Can make out animals at over 4-500 yards under the lamp so its suited well over the range of the hmr.

about £150 for the non illum version.

  2. I find that the bolt is no issue at all for me, all my shooting is always done off a rest or a bipod so i can fire with my left hand and use my right hand to cycle the bolt and this allows me to get a second shot off faster than a right handed shooter.

  3. Blackhawk is a cheaper option and the build quality is excellent, just as good as harris. Deben also make a good bipod too.

Ive got the 9-13 traverse model. There's a few on Ebay in the UK for sale cheap.

I started with a cheap one for €20 on ebay and it lasted 2 years before a leg fell off.

  4. This is quite irresponsible the 17hmr is not like a .22 the build up of copper in the bore will cause over pressure eventually as will the powder residue .You will be lucky to get a .17 brush through the barrel all I can say is it would be normal to clean some where between 50-100 shots and no more ,

Mine gets the bore snake through it every time I come back from shooting which is normally between 30 -60 shots .

    Deershooter

actually a bore snake fits down it quite easily even, I give it a pull through of one maybe every 100 rounds, but I wouldnt consider that proper cleaning.

  5. I sanded down my shotgun and had it done in no time at al with 1200 wet paper. Took very little effort to get the paint off.

You would be better reblueing it or getting it cerekoted which will give a strong long lasting finish.

Normal paint even with a lacquer marks very easily.

  6. Ive got the nighteater 30mm 4-16 x50 and its a class bit of kit for the price. It will leave the night eye in the dust. Ive used it along side higher end hawke scopes like the endurance and and its a great piece of kit. Imo 4-16x50 is plenty on the hmr and 6-24x56 would be an awful big scope on it.

I looked into a lot of scopes around that price recently when getting a new scope for my hmr and I'm glad with the choice I made, comes with a sunshade and scope caps too.

  7. I had the mossberg maverick t88 and it was a great gun, its light enough considering it is a pump action and i carried it around all day rough shooting and it never bothered me.

If fired all cartridges and never had any problems, but then again theres not much to go wrong with them and if it does jam its usually the users fault, you could short pump when getting used to it and the shell could get caught up.

I got mine and it was a wreck, i sanded it down and resprayed it a few times. it took dogs abuse and never once gave a problem.

    I miss it :(

  8. Had a CCI round blow out the end of the case and had gas and dirt hit me in the face and left me with a ring in my ear for the rest of the day the bang off it was so bad..

Use federals now and find them the most accurate in my rifle.

  9. Im a lefty and shoot a right handed hmr, TBH I very rarely fire from standing without a support under the gun so its more of an advantage for me to have a right handed rifle as long as its not thumbhole.

A left handed person can fire a right handed rifle faster than a right handed person off a bipod or a good rest. I can keep my right hand close to the bolt and cycle for follow up shots if theyre needed without taking my hand away from the trigger.

If you need to fire standing shots well just do it live mentioned in saving private ryan.

  10. Unfortunately ebay ones are very hit and miss, the spec a vendor had when he sold out one batch and bought in another has quite often changed.

Also some people see red a lot clearer than others, I have taken two guys out lamping who could not even see forty yard eye-shine from lamps that I can see 200+ yard eye-shine from.

I went out last night when it had gotten a bit clearer out and seemed to be darker and i could see a lot better with it. will have to properly field test it tonight.

  11. It's going on my varmint rifle, so I'm going to be shooting rabbits, crows etc.., at range so I might fire a fair few rounds in a session. I have watched a few videos on you tube and the jet z does seem bloody quite !! But there expensive . Il have a look at the maxum :)

You can add baffles to the maxum to make it quieter again, they just screw onto the end each time. 4 should be plenty on the .223

  12. it will work but will Not be as good as there will be too much spillage, all you want is the light from the led hitting the aspheric lens NOT the reflected light off the reflector aswell

    hope this helps Evo

Sprayed it black before testing it anyway. weathers bad so was shining it into the field out the back. Dont think you'd get 100 yards out of it or even much past 50 by the looks of things?

It seems to be a very dark colour red if that makes sense.

  13. I dont use my pocket because its easy for them to fall out of it and a pouch is easier to keep them together, just throw the pouch in the safe when i get home.

I use a neoprene mp3 player pouch that I found lying around that zips closed, the colour is handy to find if i ever drop it anywhere.
