  1. Hi all, I am looking for beating opportunities in South Northants (i'm in the Towcester area but willing to travel), ideally weekends, but may be able to get some time off in the week, with a bit of notice. I have a young working cocker, who is coming on really nicely, very well behaved, just needs some time out in the field now to embed all the training. Many thanks, Simon
  2. Hi, A friend and I are looking for some regular pigeon shooting in the Buckingham / Towcester area, both fully insured experienced responsible shooters, fairly new to the area and struggling to find any permissions, Thanks, Simon
  3. Hello, I am looking for a single gun to share with a friend on a game shooting syndicate for the coming season. Ideally North Bucks / South Northants area (Buckingham, Towcester, Olney, Northampton, Milton Keynes). We have both shot for most of our lives and are looking for a local, friendly syndicate where we can enjoy some regular shooting. Many thanks, Simon
  4. Think I am going to putting down my deposit on the xplor action tomorrow, before I do so any other opinions on the gun and in particular whether to go with the kick off or not? Thanks
  5. Hi all, Went to a Beretta & Browning open day yesterday, run by one of my local gun shop. I was going there to try out the various Maxus models as I was really keen on the Browning semi-auto, I got on ok with them but they didn't seem quite right. I then had a go with the Beretta A400 Xplor 'Action', which is essentially the same as the 'Light' but a little bit heavier. I got on great with it, felt well balance and fitted well, I then tried the Light which just felt too light. Anyways, the gun will be used primarily for Pigeon shooting and the odd day on the clays, I was wondering if any of you have tried / own the Xplor Action and could let me know what you think, as there is not a lot online about it at all, as I think it is fairly new. The one I tried was a 28" with Kick Off, they didn't have the non Kick Off model. The Kick Off seemed ok to me, but I know some dont like it so I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on this as well, Thanks, Simon
  6. Hi, I have had a late defender 90 TD5 (2006) for a couple of years now and it has been great, put 30K miles on it (now @ 60k). I think you need to factor in looking after them well, service regularly and get it professionally wax oiled if you can as they do suffer from corrosion, however I can quite honestly say its the best vehicle I have had. As has been suggested do make sure you look at plenty and hold out for the right one, preferably one previously owned by an enthusiast. In terms of steering away from station wagons with retro fitted windows / seats, I wouldn't rule them out; for vehicles 2005 / 06 onwards road tax prices got hiked right up, but this did not apply to commercial vehicles i.e. vehicles not sold from new as station wagons. Dealers at the time were taking non station wagons and upgrading them themselves to Station Wagon spec (rear seats, rear windows etc) with all the genuine bits, but meaning that the owners incurred the lower road tax and could also benefit from things like rubber matting throughout, which some find far more practical that the carpet type flooring Anyways good luck on the search, will keep an eye out for you on any for sale, Simon
  7. Hi all, Couple of questions with regards to the Maxus Comb and Cast adjustment: - do the shims to make the adjustments come as standard with both the composite and wooden stocked guns? (think there are 6 of them?) - can you make just as much adjustment to the wooden stocked guns as the composite? I was originally under the impression that it was just the Composite stock that had all the shims to adjust it, but reading a few other posts it would seem that this may not be the case.... Many thanks Simon
  8. I think it comes with a 2" barrel extender doesn't it, so would I be wise going with maybe a 28" or a 30" that I could then extend to 30" or 32" should I wish to?
  9. Going to go and have a look at some early next week, see if it fits and which barrel feels right, thanks for all of your help, Simon
  10. Hi, I am in the process of kitting myself out with some of my own decoying gear, before I go out and buy it all new, just wondering if anyone has any second hand gear that they no longer need? I am looking for netting, hide poles, a rotary set up, flapper and some floaters (already have some normal ground decoys). If anyone has any of this available and they are fairly local (I am near Buckingham) then can you send me a PM? Many thanks, Simon
  11. Hi all, I am a few miles north of Buckingham, only a few miles from Northants really,
  12. Hi, Just wondering if there might be anyone in the area that I could go out with to get a bit of experience pigeon shooting with, setting up hides, decoying etc, doesn't necessarily need to actually include any shooting, but just something to get me started when I have some of my own permissions Many thanks Simon
  13. I have exactly the same dilemma at the moment, so interesting to read this post. My only concern about getting a 5 shot will be that I am restricted on where I use it, as I imagine that unless you have an open FAC, you will not have the freedom that you have with a 3 shot to use it wherever you wish, without the land necessarily being signed off? If this is the case I am not sure it is really worth the trouble of going for the 5 shot...
  14. Hi, Looking for a new pigeon and clay gun and pretty tempted by the Browning Maxus, any of you guys have any experience with this that could let me know your thoughts? In the past I have always shot O/U but I can see the benefits of a semi auto, particularly on the pigeons. This brings me onto the second part of my question, barrel length, 26", 28" or 30", particularly given that the semi auto workings of the maxus make it a longer gun anyway by an inch or so, I am wondering what people think is the best barrel length to consider, particularly as it will be used in a hide. Many thanks, Simon
  15. Hi all, Just a quick hello as I am new to the site, been shooting for years and always been aware of the site but never really got involved, so I thought it was about time Simon
