  1. I'm off out on a bimble round my permission with my dogs and guaranteed if I leave the rife I'm going to see enough bucks to feed me for a year. There's a 2.4 mile track that runs in a loop through it but it doesn't quite join up at the start/stop and will involve me walking on the roadside for 300m.

I'm proper out in the sticks and the majority of folk shoot (or at least won't be calling for armed cops to take out the camoed up gunman). Obviously if I'm on the road I'd be unloaded and bolt out.

    Cheers,

    Paddy

  2. Cheers guys,

Yes my mate (and the Head Keeper) are both in line for a good malt each lol.

Currently the heads in the freezer and is getting cleaned at the weekend and I'm definitely mounting it too. I don't think I'll bother getting it scored as it's probably not a bronze medal head but I'll check out the skull once it's clean. He was a right healthy beast, only had 3 ticks on his undercarriage and weighed 30lbs without his head and legs.

  3. Over the weekend I got taken out to do a bit of stalking by a Keeper mate as a favour from the Head Keeper I beat for and managed to shoot this lovely looking Buck.

Due to the lie of the land the shot was taken from only 48 yards and had to be a neck shot as he was stood facing me in low cover. Luckily I managed to keep calm enough till after the shot lol. It was also the first time I've used my .243 properly too.

It was a top weekend all things considered!!

  4. I got my first FAC back in November and on it, it doesn't state I'm only allowed to shoot on the farm where my permission is. Does that mean it's an open certificate or have they just changed the way they write them? My pals first FAC stated the exact ground he was allowed to shoot on so I'm confused about mine.

    Thanks,

    Paddy

  5. On the other side some will beat it out of a dog whereas a collar catches them in the act and sorts it out straight away. Don't forget most have a beep function that they soon learn means stop so shocking is rare, it's also adjustable in power. Personally it's a bit like a long lead if used properly but with less chance of injuring the dog if you are too severe.

That's what I thinking. I know some guys that swear by beating the dog half to death on the thought of "that'll teach it".

Anyway cheers for both sides. I do plan on employing the long lead technique as of this week (when I borrow one for the local stables lol) as that's free.

    Thanks,

    :yes::yes::yes::good::good:

I don't see why in that case some sort of field test cannot be arranged before you part with money.

Unfortunately the rifle is 450 miles away from me so that kind of rules out any field test :(

Part of me thinks it might just be better all round to do a deal on a complete new package on a T3 lite, scope and mod. Then it's down to me and my looking after it.

  7. I'm looking at buying my first .243 shortly for foxes and I've found one at an okay price and of a suitably good make too. I've emailed the seller/RFD and this is what he said:

I bore scoped the rifle before putting it on sale and can advise that although not it is not perfect it is far better than the vast majority of used rifles we see, it has next to no sign of fire cracking or throat erosion which is a common problem on used .243 rifles and it only the odd minor blemish which is of no significance which has been caused by a less than perfect cleaning regime, I would estimate that the rifle has fired around 500 rds or so and can see no reason it will not group 1" or better at 100m with ammo it likes.

Does that sound reasonable? It'll be my first full bore rifle and I don't want to buy a shot out dud that's no use to man nor beast.

    Cheers,

    Paddy
