  1. couple of more pics: and that "controversial" bow that took out the hippo..
  2. Im having a hard time understanding the motive for your comment on a shooting forum - calling hunters "cowards" That comment would then also be directed at anyone shooting pigeons, foxes, deers, squirrels - anything with a telescopic sight... Actually you dont know the circumstances either, I know for one that they track the animal on foot through the dense bush for example. Do you think a leopard is just going to be lying out in the open? such a comment is downright naive and ignorant on a shooting/hunting forum and perhaps should be posted on a forum like PETA...
  3. this one has val kilmer and michael douglas , may very well be the same movie...
  4. thank-you for sharing that, i totally agree its not for everyone. your post reminded me of a movie back in the mid 90s if you have not seen it, i certainly recommed it as a good watch - The Ghost and the Darkness http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116409/ In 1896, a construction engineer from the British Army, J.H. Patterson is sent to build a railway bridge across Kenya's Tsavo River for the British East African Railway. Soon after he arrives, workmen begin to disappear at night from their tents - never to be seen alive again. The engineer soon discovers that a pair of man-eating lions are stalking around the bridge and campsites, killing the workmen for food. He tries a number of different methods to get rid of them, but the beasts always seem to know what Patterson is doing and avoid being shot. After 30 men have been killed Patterson's boss recruits a hunter, Charles Remington to hunt down and destroy the lions. But the lions continue killing the workmen until they flee the camps, jumping onto the train as it rolls through Tsavo. Now Remington, Patterson and his aide must face these brilliant yet frightening monsters alone. - Written by Derek O'Cain
  5. For the same reason anyone would want to shoot a pigeon, pheasant, deer, rabbit, fox.... Vervet monkeys are a pain in the ****. BTW - whats wrong with hunting with a bow?
  6. It is easy to make a comment like this if you have never done it yourself, isn’t it? Especially when the hippo is responsible for more human fatalities in Africa than any other large animal. Even the local hunter-gather natives still living in the bush would have more common sense than that to hunt a hippo with a knife…
  7. I would also say it also about the challenge of the hunt - how many hunters do you know would have the "gonads" to do that?
  8. Asked him - he said it took 4 shots to take it down...... with the bow of course...
  9. All controlled and legitimate. Reserves are setup for trophy hunters and animal populations controlled as such. He has a taxidermist who does all the work and ships the trophy’s back the hunters origin country.
  10. I looked at the endangered species list, don't seem to see african lion or leopard on there mate... https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status
  11. My mate is a professional hunter in South Africa. He sent me a couple of pics - he is the one holding the leopard and in photo with the lion. You will see him with a couple of his customers in other photos. If you know anyone interested in hunting trip, let me know I will put them into contact with him. He has clients coming over from Europe and America for tailored hunting. loads more photos, but reached upload limit...
  12. Ok - thanks for our generosity - much appreciated. The first 2 presses (2004 model) came from sportsmans guncentre, however they were very good and helpful in resolving the issue. Polite and refunded my money fast and paid for return shipping. The 3rd press (2014 model) with the defect came from CDSG Ltd - this is the seller who refused to replace the frame for me (he did not even have to bother with all pieces – ie whole press, just the frame) but he accused me of been a liar, breaking the unit (even though it was still working) and threatened with his company lawyers because I wanted to return for a replacement. The humour is he accused me of using too much pressure (which had nothing o do with the problem) and despite the fact LEE advertise in their catalogue concerning the LoadMaster “Automatic indexing with a wedge lock mechanism that will actually hold a ton” Totally different experience to sportsman guncentre. The forth one (2013) I bought for the £100 from Opticswarehouse, owner JP told me the story he had of a customer who bought a RCBS progressive and could not set it up properly and returned it to Opticswarehouse after 6 months, he was fine with refunding the customer – that is great service in my opinion… I had to fight with CDSG Ltd to get my money back and as for LEE - their approach to resolving issues is a joke, especially when their website states and I quote: Warranty (less than 2 years old): If your tool is in warranty, you can return the faulty part to the factory where it will be repaired or replaced at no charge. Another option for a warranty replacement is to input your contact information on this form and upload a photo of the broken part
  13. phaedra1106 - I posted that after I had purchased the LEE 223 and after I had issues with it (which was the reason for the post in the first place) so what point are you trying to make? The main problem I had was with the press construction – the defective frame and the issues with replacement, the attitude from the reseller and the manufacturer, not the use of the item... Sorry but can you also enlighten me as to “My offer of a free bolt still stands, just let me know what length it is you need.” – a little confused as to where you get so much detail from and where this offer was originally made? I don’t see how you could know the length/type of the bolt unless you are affiliated with CDSG or LEE, because none of those details were disclosed on any of my posts. Can you kindly advise who you are and why you would be so interested in trying to correct this issue?
  14. Exactly what do have I to be positive about when it comes to LEE - considering my experience, deershooter? I clearly listed the issues I had with the manufacturer as well as distributor and wanted to share them to see if anyone else had similar experience, hence the reason for the topic of the thread. "Anyone else had bad experience with LEE Precision Products"
  15. @ Kent, you preaching to the converted mate. I work in services industry, so am totally adept at understanding the dynamics around customer services. There are circumtances where suppliers think they are doing you big favour and are above the law (such as the sales of goods act), when in fact it is you as a buyer that is providing them business. In this case with CDSG Ltd it was a balatant attack from the onset which "reaped" a response from a ****** of buyer... which supplier in thier right mind refuses to refund an item with a factory defect? Then makes accusations that the buyer broke the item (when it was clearly a factory defect backed up by photographs/videos), accuses the buyer of been a liar and threatens with company solicitor if the item is returned? Must be out of his mind becuase as I said the sales of goods act would have prevailed, so from his side it would be similar to farting against the wind... Its just the pain and stress of having to deal with such obnoxious suppliers - cowboy traders if you ask me.
  16. LEE made changes to the LoadMaster press from 2012 onwards, according to thier website... @ Kent - LEE is sold all over the world, even in South Africa. Usually suppliers will sell other reloading products like Hornady, RCBS, Dillon, not just LEE. And yes, I would never do business with CDSG ltd based on my experience with them, but there are other suppliers I would also buy from such as sportsman guncentre, opticwarehouse, Mcavoy who all sell a variety of reloading gear and offer good customer service.
  17. It was also LEE attitude toward resolving the problem. Instead of sending a replacement press out, they recommended I file down the frame and touch it up with Mazda red paint. I mean really - they want me to file down a brand new frame on a £290 press and touch it up with paint....how would you feel if you just forked out £290 for one of their presses and their best response was some DIY to fix a factory defect...
  18. thanks for the reminder for intro, being member for a couple of months reading posts but never posting..... So allow me to introduce - Im 38, shoot target, clays and a mixture of disciplines, from South Africa been in UK 13 years. Engineer by studies (electronic), Manager by profession....so yes, I do understand how things work. Just had a very bad experience with LEE products and thier post-sales support - so apologies for the rant. In reply to seeker, issue with both the LEE importer and distributor CDSG Ltd and LEE customer support direct....they both suck.
  19. Not sure if anyone else has had bad experience with this lot, but my mine has been terrible and I would not encourage anyone to waste their money on LEE products……. Purchased a brand new LEE loadmaster (circa £295) – received it open box with parts missing. Was sent a replacement – it arrived with 2004 date on box and 2004 catalogue inside. Needless to say I sent back the 10 year old stock. Then purchased from another LEE distributor CDSG Ltd (would advise to avoid – guy has no manners and poor service) was sent a brand new LEE Loadmaster with a defect on frame. Only became apparent 4 weeks later after I set it up and started to calibrate it. Basically was a tit on the indexer which was destroying the flippers. LEE Precisions solution was for me to file this down and touch it up with paint. Can you believe it – a brand new item that cost £290 and their solution is to file the frame down and paint it? ***! Emailed the distributor CDSG who refused to replace it and accused me of breaking the press (even though it was working but had a defect), he accused me of been a liar and threatened me with his company lawyers. Common law won and he had to refund my money under sales of goods act. Recently had another defect on their reloading stand, was not holding the press down on the z brackets on the intermediate shelf, no matter how tight turned the bolts. Also a steel base block I purchased one of the 3 bolts that hold the press to the plate snapped like butter. LEE guarantee should replace parts (bolts) they refused and asked me to post them back to the US for replacement.... Moral of the story – If you want to avoid a whole lot of pain with a poor quality product, avoid buying LEE products…… Rather stick to reputable brands and distributors such as Hornady, RCBS, Dillon is what I have learnt from this experience
