  1. Hi there,

I have just ordered my first centre fire rifle. A Tikka T3x CTR in .308. I'm now looking for a scope suitable for shooting out to 600m but really restricted on budget.

What tips and pointers should I be looking for when choosing a scope for this use. (Target only). Such as elevation limits etc.

    Thanks in advice everyone.

  2. As part of an engineering dissertation I am looking into varied methods of preventing fastener tampering. I am hoping a gunsmith who has experience the methods used in the gun trade can advice on the success/pitfalls on current methods. An example may be filling in fastener heads to prevent removal.

    Cheers

    Steve

  3. I know you guys all sound quite upset, my mate is an RFD. When he takes a gun in for someone he first has to register the gun in his register when he recieves it, then when the person collects the gun he then has to enter it onto their certificate and sign it off his register. It does not sound alot of work, but probably totals at minimum one hours work if everything goes smoothly. In relation to the couriers I am in agreement with the rest of you, but as previously stated you have the option to use Royal Mail.

This is the common practise but not actually the correct one.

When the RFD is acting as a Recieving agent the shouldn't be booking it into their book. The buyer is supposed to send Cert to seller, seller completes and returns to buyer. Seller then transfers gun through RFD and buyer collects from Recieving RFD showing cert with gun already on it.

  4. My Mrs was the same to begin with and didn't like guns. Wouldn't even allow an air rifle in the house.

It all changed when I introduced my lad to air rifle shooting and her opinion changed as it was what my lad wanted to do. We talked and agreed a cabinet was required even for the air rifles. I managed to persuade her that since I was putting a cabinet in I might aswell apply for my FAC and SGC. 17 weeks later cert landed on the door mat and she took me out to buy my first rifle.

Things can change but a lot of the time its finding the leverage You need and making it their idea. There is hope yet.

  5. Dogs trust were awful with us when we approached them for help with our German shepherd who we couldn't have round the kids anymore due to unpredictable behaviour. There motto that they never put a healthy dog down is probably because they won't take on dogs with any kind of behaviour problems. Our dog turned out to actually be having black outs from a brain Tumor and we lost him 6 months later. Wouldn't trust them at all.
