  1. Thanks for the advice guys

In answer to some points, I don't have a SGC but will be applying for it at same time as FAC. I have a little experience with .223 from 12 years in the MOB which is what's pushed me to get back into it, having missed it since I left two years ago.

I'm only looking at target shooting at the min unless I get a permission for a bit of rabbiting etc.

I wasn't sure about the .243 it was just suggested down the range due to the time it takes lincs to sort the paperwork out. Looking back at it I feel my main calibres will probably be .22lr and .223 due to economy of amunition.

I am looking for a few Rimfire purely due to the different disciplines down my club. Being semi, bolt action, iron sight and a takedown ruger 10/22 for when I go on my motorbike. (A little less obvious then big gun bag on my back)

I already have fairly high security setup with alarm etc.

I agree I will be asking for moderators for all calibre's for health and safety due to the ranges being mixed use from juniors using air rifle to the larger ones even .50 cal on the 100 meter range. (Can't afford one of those yet though)

    Cheers guys

  2. I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but I'm starting to fill out my FAC application tonight and trying to decide what to put on it. As far as I can make out I should be able to ask for any rifles which I have good reason for(based on club ranges), have sufficient storage for and would expect to buy in the next 5 years. So far I have about 4x .22rf , 1x .223, 1x .243 & 1x .308.

I do most my shooting with my son who is 10 so will be looking to make sure I have things he can use.

Rimfire wise I will be looking for a setup for iron sights, bolt action, semi auto and long range 3 position.

Can anyone see any areas I should be considering so as not to be spending £26 on a variation later.

I will be looking to add things like a LBP later along with .17hmr & FAC Air when I get a permission.

All advice welcome, (p.s. I'm in sleaford lincs for licensing).

(Just to clarify my son only shoots at the club range under the club certificate)

  3. Hi there everyone,

I'm new to PW and shooting, putting application for FAC/SGC in next month on completion of my 3 months probation at club. Looking forward to meeting more shooters and bleeding you dry for knowledge and advice. Not sure what application process is going to be like but everything I gave see so far says it will be slow.

  4. Hi everyone

Just thought I would start off by introducing my self.

I'm new to the shooting scene in as much as I'm just coming to the end of my probation with my club. I started this hobby with my 10 year old son and will be applying for both my FAC and SGC next month. I used to shoot competitive field target air rifle about 18 years ago. A lot has changed since then. I then spent 12 years in the RAF so satisfied my hobby at work with easy access to the range and club. Two years now since I left with no shooting and missing IT so hence the new hobby. I have my cabinet which I'm going to install today as I will be keeping the air rifles in there too. I have researched the legislation throughly and feel upto date although amazed at how little some people you would expect to know, actually know very little. (RFD's). I have now found a very reliable good RFD and look forward to building that long term relationship with them.

Unfortunately I live in Lincolnshire and everything I can find so far points to it being a long wait for G4S. I am starting to put together my wish list and have quite a few questions you guys may be able to help with. I will only be target shooting at first as I don't have a permission and will only be looking for an occasional vermin permission (rabbits, rats, squirrel) at a later stage with a view to FAC air and 22rf as calibres. I do not have the time for a commuter permission due to being a full time student and family commitments. My son loves the target shooting down the range but with me being over 6 ft and him not. The same 22rf at the club does not suit us both. When I apply for my FAC can I put one of the 22rf down as a carbine for him to use and how can I approach the ammo quantity as between us we get through a bit. Our last visit over Xmas after an hour setting up his air rifle we got through 200 rounds each of 22rf. Ideally I would like to possess say 1200 which would probably mean re-stocking once a month. We do live 60 miles from our club so tend to spend all day there.

Sorry for so many questions. All advice is appreciated.

    Steve.
