My eldest has had a number of Mercedes in recent years - all new - GLE, E-Class and currently a CLS 350. He took the GLE for a service and was told that he needed two new tyres, due to wear. He told them that they had fitted the tyres one month earlier. He eventually ended up with the Manager, who said that the problem was the technician, who had just started work there, having previously being with BMW. My son asked if they had differently calibrated tyre depth gauges at BMW. He got an apology and put it down to experience.

Just been on the phone about something unrelated and mentioned he had the CLS serviced at the Mercedes main agents yesterday. He was slightly surprised to be told that three tyres - fitted by them 3 weeks earlier (having travelled one hundred miles) had worn by 2mm. He again expressed his dissatisfaction with what was going on.

Many years ago I grew weary of exhaust / tyre fitting garages telling me I had a leaky shock absorber or all my brakes needed doing, but couldn't show me where exactly the problems were.

I thought this practice stopped years ago and would have been more prevalent in fast fit establishments.

    Is this still commonplace?

I was searching the web to see if anyone else had tyre wear issues with a Merc GLE and this thread popped up on Google…….  I've had mine 11 months, done 40000 miles and just put on my fourth set of rear tyres and third set of front ones😩  Wish I'd stuck to an Audi🤬

No, I didn’t miss it at all. I don’t see why they should have to repay it at all. Perhaps you missed the part where I said the decision WASN’T THEIRS!
No one on furlough was receiving a ‘full amount’, it was 80 % of their wage. The government knew it was either that or the dole.

I’m also aware of how the loans work for students as both my kids have been through it. A fair amount of that went on lectures they didn’t attend but did online instead,  and accommodation they weren’t living in.
Perhaps you could think of a method which targets those which abused the system rather than those who genuinely needed it?

To many it was less than 80% of their wage, as the 'Wage' was a capped figure, and it was 80% of that maximum figure…….. So, a pittance for those with debts/bills to suit a higher salary…….  Like you say, it wasn't their choice so why single them out🙄

Don’t you think texting and Social Media are far more responsible for poor grammar and atrocious spelling than poor schooling?!

The last time I opined about poor grammar on PW, everyman and his dog were offended……….to the point that the thread got shut down😫  Sow theez dais i just axept thart ilyteracey is part and pacel off the woke era, and feelins are far mor impowtent🙄

Spot on! The general standard of written and spoken English in this country is appalling, thanks in large part to the ideological bigotry that abolished the grammar schools and replaced them with educational mediocrity. Whatever anyone's personal view of the value of Latin, the grammar schools were by far the greatest enablers of social mobility this country has ever had. The irony is that with a very few exceptions, they were destroyed by the very party that claims to champion social mobility!

Latin, along with other classical languages such as ancient Greek, was of course a factor in engendering the hated "Elitism" label the socialist loonies applied to the grammar schools. Judging by the opening post such attitudes still exist.

    +1

    Youre quite right of course.
Apparenlty he’s been giving Southgate all manner of managerial advice, unfortunately he seems to be listening! 😀

Come on Scully, you're normally bang on the money with topics on PW, but football knowledge has left you wanting……. You name England's No1, No10 and No29 top scorers of all time, and say they're not ballers compared to todays squad🙄

If I were interested enough, I maybe would look him up, but I’m not, so I won’t.
I’m sure Gareth Southgate has him on speed dial, and is making use of his coaching skills as we speak. 🙂

I'll save you the bother, he's the highest scoring midfielder in the history of the premier league (Still holds the record)……….  It's probably why he got selected🤪

I wonder whether part of it is also that this England squad isn't made up of players who are stars in their domestic teams. Other than Kane and perhaps Sterling, who of the current England side would you say is the overtly prime force or the driving inspiration of their side? Whereas when you look back at past squads, so many of the players went from being the leaders/dominant players to being just another squad member in a squad full of such players.

Either way, it's making a difference. This squad looks a much better team, even if the individual parts aren't as good as previous players

And other than Trippier, Maguire, Shaw, Rice, Mount, Grealish, Rashford, Bings, Sancho, Calvert-Lewin, James and Saka………… You're obviously someone who doesn't follow football too🙄

Well it’s all subjective and it’s just my opinion. Personally I don’t know how Lampard ever got selected.
I think it was the ‘wags’ issue and personal lives which seemed to me to attract more attention than the football, or at least as much, and Lampard married a tv celebrity as far as I recall. It all seemed to be Homes & Gardens, Cosmopolitan and Hello magazine features.
Like I said, it’s just my opinion. You’ll have yours. 🙂

Wow, you don't know how Lampard ever got selected…………….  You obviously know very little about football!  I would suggest you look up his achievements 🥴

I think one big difference I think, between this team and those recently, is that this squad appear to have very little if no egos. I don't know if that's made a difference, but the likes of Beckham, Rooney, Lampard and others, seemed more like celebrities than footballers. The current squad seem more like footballers.

You've just named 3 of England's best ever players…… Not sure where Lampard fits into the Celeb bit though, as that wasn't his style in his playing days.  Nevertheless, I think back then they all carried too much pressure from expectations of the '1966 drum banging media' , whereas to the the new guys, its just another competition👍

The world is going crazy in my opinion. New Zealand trans gender weight lifter Laurel Hubbard, being allowed to take part in Tokyo Olympics.

I know some of the women lifters look like blokes but they must be at a disadvantage when this is allowed. If she wins hold it could set a trend as many more may choose this route as a way of achieving olypic success.

Oh and I must mention this, one of her disciplines is reported to be the snatch.

I'll congratulate you on the pun, seeing as no one else has🤪👍

I think they have.  But again, neither you nor I are Texas employment law specialists, so we shall see.  If I were a betting man, however...

Correct but you forgot the corollary to that, which is if these subsequent amendments are deemed unreasonable, illegal, or even just that the employees were strong-armed in to accepting them at risk of losing their jobs, they will find themselves before a court or tribunal.

You mustn't let your enthusiasm or otherwise for vaccination distract you from the fact this case will be decided based on its merits under the applicable state laws and the constitution, not feelings or medical science.

I keep repeating that over and over and it still won't come out right……..😩 A bit like Red lorry, Yellow Lorry😬

I've spent far too many hours watching short films presented by Dust! If you have Netflix try Love, Death & Robots.

Thats me going to be up till all hours again😩  I've watched a few now, and it's like a pack of Revels……….. you just have to try the next one, and the next.

    Good recommendation though👍
