  1. The gun just seemed 'vague', I would hit a pair, miss a pair, but NOT know where or why I missed, this went on over 7 stands, 4 pairs on each. Overall, I hit around half, and I was glad to return it to the shop. That was a 32" model without any additional barrel weights and the stock weight adjusted to give a mid balance (between the hands or on the hinge pin). I then did the same stands using my Beretta 303 auto and dropped 4 birds ! The Blaser was not for me, I will stick with my sports jacket ! The following day I tried the Browning 725 (rust bucket model) I only shot around 20 clays with it, but dropped 2. No prizes for guessing which gun I now own ! I went out again today with my trusty , or should that be rusty 725 ? and shot around 70 assorted targets including skeet, I did not drop that many, considering the stock is a bit on the long side.

Yeah that's interesting mate. They arrived in Australia this week so I'll go and check one out. Thanks for your thoughts.

  2. Something thin in Merino is the go mate. My vest has become a bit tighter (we obviously have the same climate-change issues in the Southern Hemisphere) and this year I bought a thin Icebreaker jumper. It's got a high-neck zip and is the perfect weight. Not too hot if the sun comes out halfway round the ground either. On a couple of really cold days I've put on a thin merino thermal underneath. I think you can get Icebreaker in the UK. It's a New Zealand brand.

  3. Tell us about the rifles cals that you use and what the quarry is. What sort of shotgun / s do you use. I used to comunicate with a guy out in Aus that was a shark fisherman. He lived somewhere near Laureton . He and I were on another site that submerged and I lost contact with him.

So I started out as a kid chasing rabbits/foxes/kengaroos. I then started doing a few trips up to NSW and Queensland each year after pigs and goats. I've also done a few Northern Territory trips after pigs and buffalo.

About 15 years ago I started hunting deer pretty seriously. In Victoria we've got Sambar, Red, Fallow and Hog with the odd Chital and Rusa.

Two years ago I started shooting Field and Game which is Australian Simulated Field. It's like your Sporting Clays or English Sporting. I've become massively addicted to it and shoot comps about 3 or 4 times a month. Through F&G I've gotten in with a great crew of blokes and with them I'm hunting duck and quail. We also take 4 driven pheasant days per year and do a few walk-up days on partridge and pheasant.

In terms of guns I'm shooting a Kemen KM4 32" sporter. When I started on the clays I bought a 725 32" sporter then went to the Kemen.

    As a bit of a gun whore I've had at least one of; 22, 17hmr, 223, 22-250, 243, 6mmXC, 270, 7mm wsm, 30-06, 300wsm, 300wm, 325wsm, 338NM, 9.3x62, 375H&H. Bloody hell, that's pretty bad now I actually list them!!

  4. any photos ? I was over there for about a year, farming mostly, in the west, loved it

Sorry mate, no photos. I could have taken some because the place is looking great with all the rain we've had. I wouldn't have taken a photo of the scoreboard though because I had a shocker.

    Gday matey.

    G'day matey yourself.
  5. Welcome. I get over now and again (4 years ago last time) and stay with family in Bacchus Marsh and Bendigo and a cousin had a motel at Nagambie.

Well mate I'd be an hour from Bendigo and a bit less from Nagambie. I'm shooting at Seymour tomorrow which as you may remember is very close to Nagambie.

  6. I bought the kit separately when I bought my 22-250. I hadn't even installed it before I took it back. Both the "bottom-metal"(plastic) and the mag felt really cheap and flimsy. Used the standard floor-plate mag and couldn't be happier.

  7. Hi guys, first post. I'm looking at a new slip and based on my Croots cartridge bag and Dalby carryall, I'll be staying with them.

    Two questions on Croots slips.

Does the Rosedale canvas roll-up slip have a liner at all or is it just canvas?

Has anyone experienced sheepskin fluff coming away and sticking to their gun with any of the Croots sheepskin lined slips?
