  1. I only use dead birds but years ago we used to make our decoys from old grey plastic guttering, and then paint the wing and neck bars on with white matt paint and they worked, I also used to touch-up some of my old decoys with the same paint and they worked, so I don't see why you need UV paint.

I suspect almost anything white e.g. tippex, would work to a degree. The question is what would work best and give the greatest advantage in " pulling" power. As Steve_b says pigeons can see in the uv spectrum and the the white bars on their feathers glow in uv light, that's probably why dead birds are so effective. I'd like to try to obtain the same effect with decoys, hence white uv paint.

  2. S*S take a look at the 110, heard it described as everything the 100 should have been, don't know about the stock though?

I would endorse Mice!. Fantastic handling gun and very useable by a "leftie". I love the grippy black stock and really like the look of the whole rifle. Buy a 110, you'll love it. Best wishes,Mark

  3. They all work on there day but obviously you need them to land confidently, I would say hd full body ones,if your feeling flush those enforcer full body deeks are the best just a bit pricey! or if weight/ bulk is an issue, sillosocks but I'd say it would be more important to get your pattern right which is just trial and error, my last two outings they've decoyed great to hd shells landed straight in! But it does tend to be the younger birds, good luck, I've never tried decoying with an air rifle but I like to try it one day!

Thanks for the reply WilksyII, I've heard so.e good reports of the Siloscks. As you say, the pattern is probably the most important thing and getting that right and close enough to the hide as well! Give it a go sometime. Best wishes,Mark

  4. This has probably been done to death so please bear with me. I want a few pigeon decoys for a bit of air rifle shooting and was wondering what the consensus was on best ones. I was thinking either FUDS, some old shells with the new silosocks socks on or some flocked decoys. Don't really want to bother with magnets etc. What are your views? Thanks in anticipation, Mark

  5. Good questions, First watch, make sure the Pigeon want the particular field, sometimes worth walking across the said field to move them an see if they come back (you have to be out the way of-course) (even if you sat in your motor) Flight line,if you can spot one your on a winner straight away,if it`s not obvious then all is NOT lost. A sittie tree is good either on the edge of the field or in the middle make little difference.Camo netting, i have the green army type (doubled up so as to keep it thicker) bought as it is i dont think it is thick enough,(could use two bits), you need it comfortable enough to see without massive gaps. And to be able to poke the gun through. (oh while i am on about the gun ,you can rest the gun stock/aircylinder on the netting, but not the barrel or silencer, that alters poi) I use hide poles, just cus it`s easy an maybe a couple of bungee straps (handy for support off the hedge or tree),if under a tree an in good shadow then no roof needed but if on the edge of a field an they are coming from behind i would consider one, One more thing about the hide is i like to add foliage ,whatever is around the field, even if it is a patch of something 20yds away. Now Decoys ,Shells will work ok i have some (sillosock) ones i think there called ,easy to pack an i rate them ,bit of trial an error now for the placement of the deeks, i prefer a tight little group of 3 or 4 ,twenty yds or so out (yesterday i had 3 feeders an one sentry out, nothing came in) (flaring off) so removed sentry an then birds coming in, Weird ,Camo clothing, I always were it long sleeve T-shirt, light weight trousers thin light face mask an light gloves ,but sometimes you can get away with out some of these (thick hide an red hot day an i would be tempted ) Well give it a try an report back, lol. good luck. O forgot when you get some pigeon swap them for the deeks an if there still the right way up leave them .

Bladerunnertoo, many thanks for posting such a comprehensive reply, really helpful.I shall have a bash at that and see what transpires. Well done on your 41 birds, some lovely meals there!!! All the best, Mark

  6. That's really good. Could you please tell us how you were shooting, ie, hide?, how constructed, seeks, patterns etc etc. I'd love to have a bash myself but some instructions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance,Mark

  7. Let me have another look.

Ah can't as I don't have your address

I did a quick once over on Google maps and street view, than I saw something about how much you paid for it three years ago and it had the pictures from Zoopla or some such. About 6~8 pictures of the rooms and garden and your rabbit.

I'm no stalker, but it was chucking it down outside and I was bored. To be honest, it was scary how easy it was to find so much detail.

Sorry to spook you, but better I do it, than a bunny hugger 'anti'.

Wow, that was easy and a bit worrying. Many thanks for the information. Very best wishes,Mark

  8. Hi guys, I am interested in doing a bit of pigeon decoying from a hide and was wondering if anyone experienced in this could give me some information. Which deeks do you recommend,FUDS, plastics, fully flocked or what. Also what kind of net and what size would you suggest for a hide? Finally, do you subscribe to a u or v shape decoy pattern or, as some now suggest, just put them out in a random pattern facing the wind? I will be using an air rifle by the way. Many thanks,Mark
