shoot then all the year year round because they leave droppings on a golf course ect .

Odd isn't it, that to shoot a pigeon you have to prove that it is or is going to do damage to a commercial crop. But droppings on a golf course is sufficient reason to kill a noble bird like a Canada goose out of season. Is this just another case of the urban sprawl dictating what goes on in the countryside. Farmers are rich and can afford to feed the wildlife with their crops but goose droppings on the clubhouse carpet from shoes or even worse on the carpet of my shiny car is totally unacceptable.

If you have sat in the hide for a long time and not seen any pigeons, here are 3 sure fire ways to see some

1 Stand up and stretch your legs

2 Roll a cigarette, if you do not smoke consider rolling one anyway and as you look up you will see a pigeon just about to be out of range.

3 Use your phone, texting works quite well but making or receiving call works very well.

I hope these tips are of use to others and please add to the list.

So you have to have a license to buy certain ammo?

You need a licence for everything except airgun pellets over here, when I was hunting on your side of the pond the shells went through Wallmarts check out with the rest of the shopping.

Whilst I agree to an extent with the above, the reasons i went off Eley were that (like ulimately all manufacturers) their product pricing was stifled by competition and to keep margins up (they are a privately owned business), component quality was going downhill in particular the lead shot was softer than expected and irregular both in size and shape leading to some very poor patterns in their less expensive ranges.

I agree, a couple of years ago I had a nostalgic moment and picked up a slab of Grand Prix, as that was what I started on many many years ago, they were a very poor shadow of those from the past or they seemed to be because other makes had moved with the times.

At work we have various shotguns, Super Novas primarily but have a S/A or two laying around. So whilst I physically cant own the variants we use, something that vaguely resembles them will at least mean I can keep my shooting standards up in between qualification shoots.

S/A laying around ?  Why can't you 'physically' own one ?

Never would have thought to use jelly tots! Thinking about it there the perfect bait! I would of used peanut butter or something similar. We've spotted a field mouse running around the back of are green houses doesent seem to be taking anything at the moment just seems to be using it as a covered run to get somewhere else. Will keep a eye on the situation tho ...as long as he stays away from my strawberrys plants he can live for now

    Remember field mice are protected

That's a lot of traps, wouldn't have thought of mice damaging things in a poly tunnel, so what's the most you've caught in a night?

When it starts to get colder it may go up to around 10 a night, but with poison and two feral cats it is about 1 a week at the moment.

I was as well in another life time 4th generation, anyway I would say after last year's hot summer trees will try and reproduce as they were probably stressed.

I am 3rd generation and next year will our centenary. I have come to the same conclusion, that trees when stressed go into panic mode.

Now I've retired I do a couple of mowing and weeding jobs locally to get me out and about a bit and pay the car insurance, never seen so many weeds cropping up out of nowhere.

Weeds are doing very well but trees are not growing as well as they should, a very odd year !

I think I must have it wrong. Perhaps I should ask what can't you do instead of what can you do with regards to the GLs. Then, when everyone comes back and says there isn't anything, I can then ask why we have them at all. I started shooting well before the Original Defra issued versions and must say because of illness I didn't shoot under the 20 series GLs which recently appeared for the few weeks, but with that exception, I have never had to do anything different to what I was originally doing before the advent of these controls.

I agree, I saw the old GL come in, but clearly quite a few of the later people to join the sport were unaware that they even existed, it was a quick look at the quarry list or a 'mate' said and off you went. Personally I think the new GLs are better. The best thing to come out of it, is that a lot more shooters are now aware that they exist and that can only be a good thing.

As they say patience is a virtue and in the fullness of time BASC and others have helped the issue of these ne GLs which is a positive step in the right direction, Basc and the other organisations are to be applauded for their steadfast approach to resolving most of the problems created by this whole fiasco.  Business well for the most part as usual.  I am confident BASc  the NGO etc can uphold our position in the consultations now to follow.  We are so lucky to have the likes of BASC  NGO etc fighting our corner , we all need to give credit where credit is due now stop all the bickering and anti BASC negativity and get on with the job in hand . TOGETHER!.
