  1. Hi Button, yes its a grant so only right that renewals take priority. I am encouraged by the fact I have been told it is with a chief inspector makes me think it is very nearly crunch time. I would like to think if there was any obvious reason to reject the grant it would have been done and written off by now but who knows

  2. Thanks Burpster, I don't want anyone to think I am being too impatient I know that the usual lead time is 12 weeks, it's only that other people under the same force have received theirs by now and I hadn't heard anything. I have dropped them an email out of curiosity but I will sit back and wait. 16 weeks and counting lol

  3. I submitted my application for SGC and FAC to police Scotland 16 weeks ago. I have done my medical report and had my interview all checked out. The FEO advised me that he finished the inquiry on the 30th of November so...

I called the Edinburgh firearms team today where my application is being processed only to be told that it was with Dalkieth. I then called Dalkieth who advised me it was with a Chief Inspector at the Edinburgh office and the information I had been given was incorrect.

Rather than call the Edinburgh team back I have now sent an email just asking for an update. Does anyone have any experience in emailing them team and if they are punctual in replying?

lol - everything you are saying is pretty much a play by play of my application i.e. declared a condition, was told it should be ok by the FEO as long as the docs report matches my declaration (which it does) and now waiting around wondering.  Currently been about two and a half weeks since they should have received the doctors report.  I have asked the FEO to confirm receipt of the report and should hopefully get confirmation tomorrow.

So, rest assured you are not alone in your musings.

    Good luck.

Make sure and drop me a PM and let me know how your application progresses. What did you apply for?

Yep, sorry I miss read it, don’t think you have anything to worry about, its just a case of waiting now.:good:

Thanks for the reassurance. All the waiting! You tend to sit and think what if this or what if that and everything has gone so smoothly so far I a almost waiting for something to go wrong

Not sure what you mean by “an issue r=or a refusal from the licensing department”

Have you have received a letter/email from the licensing department notifying you of refusal since the FEO visit?

No the FEO emailed me today to say that he has submitted the application to the licencing department

Unless you have a dark past, or a medical issue, and your security is good.
There should be no issue, the FEO prepares a report, which is then passed on to the FLM , this is the part that takes the time usually.

    A long delay means nothing.

I declared a medical issue but the FEO had no issues with it. I also did a full medical report and all seemed fine. Just a little worried that the licencing team may not agree

The FEO doesn't make the final decision. That would be the Licensing Manager, but if the FEO said you have nothing to worry about I'd take that as a good sign. :good:

That is exactly what's playing on my mind, I think I am just worried about getting my hopes up. I am worried that just because the FEO has said he has no concerns doesn't mean that the licencing manager wont find something

  9. Has anyone on here had an experience of positive feedback from their FEO, basically being told you have nothing to worry about and then received an issue r=or a refusal from the licencing department? I am based in Scotland

Second question if you haven't had an issue what have people experiences been of time between application going to the licencing department from the FEO and your certificates arriving?

Agree with the above. I have a 17 HMR  CZ 455 at this moment and have had two other CZ rim fires and all have shot better than I can.

If you can afford both then buy both as they do different jobs. If they were knives, the 17HMR would be for brain surgery and the 22RF for sharpening pencils but without anyone knowing it.

I am certain to get both but wanted to cut my teeth on the 17hmr first as I think it is more robust. I have a bit of experience shooting .22lr all ready and maybe it's just me wanting to try something new!

I know it’s newish but still make him an offer as I am sceptical he would get 500 on the open market for it. The soft touch is great for a while but be aware they look great when new but have a habit of looking shabby when they get chipped or scraped, just food for thought. Unless you intend to keep It for a long time don’t buy your your first one in haste. It’s not hard work but is a PITA swapping rifles on FAC.

I completely agree looking on gun trader I can't see him getting 500 for it to be honest

Hawick! used to be the Queen o,the Borders, now is ------- well you can decide. I would advise you to go and have a chat with Ian at the Gunroom, St. Boswells, he will give you a few pointers.

haha I'm not from Hawick but I live there now. I was in there at the weekends but it never really occurred to me to ask. Every piece of land I have ever asked or inquired about has all ready been given to someone else. Just have to keep trying

I like the synthetic stocks as its one less thing to think about and that sounds like a nice rifle. It may well be a bargain as you know it's history.  I would guess your mate will buy another when he realises he still needs a rimfire.

A couple of thoughts. If you are going to use the rifle for night shooting then maybe stainless is not the best option and scope choice may well be critical. Many use Bipods but I never use one as it's way too wet and muddy where I shoot. So these accessories might not be needed whereas you will probably want a moderator.

Will a Stainless barrel make that much difference at night? Obviously I am aware it will reflect any light etc. but I wasn't sure just how much difference it would actually make if you were shining a lamp etc.

  13. I have been offered a CZ 455 stainless with the soft touch stick which I love the feel of. I handled a Tikka T1X at the weekend and actually preferred the feel of the CZ. The rifle in question is chambered is .17hmr and has only had about 150 rounds through it. It's a friend that has offered it as just after he bought it his variation came back with a .243 so he stopped using it and went straight to the .243 for most things he does.

It hasnt had the trigger set done but does come with decent scope and bipod. All in £500 I think he paid £700. A little more than I was prepared to pay but its a new gun rather than an older second hand rifle that has had thousands of rounds through it. Though I have been told you would be hard pushed to break a barrel on a .22or .17hmr

I have also been offered the same but with suppressor included in a wood stock 452 for £300 all in but I prefer the look and feel of the 455 and I'm not so keen on a wood stock

  14. Thanks Guys,

I have been looking at the CZ 455 as it seemed a good place to start. I have heard good things about CZ. I have spent hours looking at guns and set ups but can only do this in 10 minute sprints as I feel like every time I do it I may jinx my FAC dropping through the letter box.

  15. I am hoping that my FAC turns up sometime in the next 2 weeks. I have put in for a .22lr and a .17hmr

I am particularly keen on getting the .17hmr first. Does anyone have any advice in any shape or form even from companies pr people they have bought from before to what to look for or anything else you think I should know

    Any Advice appreciated

    Ben

While the same force they still have the units in each area before PS

They do but they all follow exactly the same process. Into the wilderness (the Pace brothers) did 2 over hour long podcasts with Frasier Lamb who at the time was head of Police Scotland Firearms licencing. I would recommend a listen:

  17. From my experience and knowledge so far Police Scotland seem to have done a really good job with Firearms licencing. I applied for a grant on September 12th and have been told to expect my certificate in the next 2 weeks which will be 12 weeks from start to finish. Bare in mind this is a grant not even a renewal

  18. Securing the keys, hiding them or keeping them on your person. FEO simply asked me to tick 1 of the three options on his form for wht I was currently doing which was hiding them. He had no issue with this. But again the FEO's in Scotland seem to be a little different than England
