  1. Very Interested. Only 20 mins or so from me so ideal,  Is a gundog a must?? I cant have one with the kids being allergic so I'm a bit snookered in that department unfortunately.

Can you get back to me with any more information please. Been desperately trying for a year or 2 to find a syndicate.

    Many thanks

Why not take a half gun? An hours not bad to get fowling, assume you mean either John Muir or Lindisfarne?

I've tried to twist the keepers arm but he wants full guns only.  Which is a shame as there was a few of us willing to go half gun.

But I guess he makes the rules at the end of the day.

To be fair, the OP hasn’t said what sort of syndicate cost he is looking for or what sort of return he is expecting.

The above posts are quite useful to see what others are paying, and what sort of returns they get for there money.

“Can’t afford it” may relate to a £2000+ syndicate or one that’s £500 for the year.

If the OP is looking for a game shooting syndicate for £300 or less I would of thought he would struggle.

With 10 guns that’s only £3,000, once you build some pens, put down birds and buy feed it’s a very small number of birds. The likely returns and the cost per bird for each gun would end up being massive.

Also it appears that Ninjaferret gave him a contact for one and he never replied. Bit disappointing.

    I can go to 600

I gave you a number and you didn't bother. So stop twisting.

I'm not twisting, I'm trying to get an idea of prices, you gave me a number and I'll be ringing.

Just because I havent rang instantly doesnt mean I'm not interested. I'm simply trying to get an idea of what I can expect to be paying and if there varied opportunities in the area

Have a look for any wildfowling clubs in your area if your keen, often around the £200 mark for a season, and some have rough shooting / decoying included.

I'm part of a wildfowling club. Only managed to get out a few times over the season though plus it's over 1hr away.

Just looking for something a tad closer

  6. I'm looking to join a syndicate for the coming season, and I'm wondering basically the variations in prices.

I am not interested in huge bags and would prefer a small diy syndicate to join as a working gun.

I do beating on a shoot already and have been offered a place but cannot afford it.

speaking to various people,  I have learned that some are paying as little as 300 quid per season for their syndicates, but these are like rocking horse **** and by invitation only.

I already struggle getting no permissions for pigeons and now I appear to be priced out of game shoots too.

(I'm based in Northumberland) just for reference.

    Cheers

Some fascinating viewpoints in this thread!

I do hope that you never have your permission stolen because you weren't there one day due to work or illness or even a holiday!

How else would you get a permission then? I understand that loyalty involved etc. But I have also at times had a knock back but been told they havent seen their regular guy for a while.  So how do you weigh it up.

The one thing I've learned about shooting is that everyone looks after themselves.

I'm not trying to sound obstinate. Just giving my observations

AKA stealing someone else's hard gained permission?

You dont try, you dont get is what I've learned.  And it's a cutthroat sport , So no I'm not stealing. I'm simply offering, and the land owner has the say at the end of the day

I share my only permission, I'm not greedy and I take newcomers out who are looking to get into shooting.

I always go with (would you like me to keep them of for you) looking the part is half the job if your there ready to go it’s much more tempting to say yes

I will bare this in mind when I'm out and about in future.

sounds like your half way there picked up all my perms by knocking ready to shoot lot of farmers will take a chance if your ready to go even if it’s just to keep them of for the day farmers knock back day trippers in trainers waving perm slips all the time very rare I get a no these days

I was told its rude to turn up with your gear expecting to get on.

Although I have pondered on this,  and as a last resort asking for a single go at them And if I do a decent job then go from there.

I do get alot of "thanks but no thanks as I've already got someone".

I guess if I had my gear with me I could go down the route of saying "well there not here now, and the crops getting hit"? Not in a cheeky way but you get my drift

after two years you must be doing something wrong check your using the right approach

I have Ngo insurance. Take my cert to show.  Identify which crop is being hit in which field.  I dress well and am polite and have business cards made up which I hand over on introduction. Always thank them for their time.

The thing is syndicates pay and at the end of the day cash is king I know from experience as the same thing happened to me , Try expanding your search and offer the farmer something in return

    Your correct.

I have been going further afield in my searches but still to no avail.

Why people pay to shoot pests is beyond me.

I do have a permission but I would prefer to have the luxury of having a choice

  11. Been trying locally for around 2 years now.

After exploring various avenues I have managed to join a shoot for beating with some pigeon shooting in return for services. This is only at certain times though. Not a free for all. Which I fully respect.

My question however is, are the days of being able to turn up and approach a farmer to ask permission over?

At every turn there is either someone else on already or there is a shoot syndicate in place.

    Highly frustrating

  12. Good evening everyone, i know that this may well be a bit premature as next season is a long way off but anyhow....
I am looking for a friendly small diy syndicate to possibly join for the 2022 season but needs to be in the Northumberland area between hexham/durham preferably, but will consider others if travel isnt too far. Will accept either full or half gun.
Fully insured with NGO and have my own 4x4, would like to give a hand with the pest/vermin control if required.
    Many thanks!

  13. I'm in the same boat pal.

My area seems very well secured and syndicated.

I have not given up yet though. I'm looking into joining the nppc if you want to look at that option.

I'm also joining my local wildfowling club this coming season. The wildfowlers seem to be alot more willing to share knowledge and secrets from what I gather so far in my dealings with them.

It appears to be your only alternative.

You shouldn’t consider that driving an hour for shooting is exceptional. I never average less than two hundred miles per week just looking. Many weeks it is nearer three hundred.

My post wasnt meant as a complaint about the travel. Quite happy with an hour drive to get some shooting.

My only beef is that I cant get any permissions nearer home. Whereas everyone seems to say you'll hit on eventually and to keep at it (which I am)

My face must just offend people...

  15. Given that I'm having no luck gaining permissions, I'm considering joining the nppc.

I would never have thought I'd have to pay for pigeon shooting, but I'm really at a loss.

My face just mustn't fit when I door knock.

Just wanted to know if anyone is a nppc member and what can be expected.

I'd also have to drive over an hour to get there.

Hi clangerman, I’m intrigued by your post as it goes against all advice that I’ve ever read (I’m certainly NOT saying you are wrong)  I have given details of crop, the location, a rough time estimate every time and a video on a couple of occasions. I am always polite always have copies of paperwork with me insurance, sgc, etc always dressed smart/casual, drive respectfully on their property (and off) I have never gone dressed for the task or with equipment as I’ve read in multiple places that that’s a big no no and also been advised the same from shooting friends. I have been asked the same question multiple time “where else do you shoot” and the same thing happens every time I give my answer that I don’t currently have a permission and only shoot with friends on their permissions/land .......any form of interest that may have been present disappears and get the usual we already have someone/ we have deterrents out/ we can’t get anyone to vouch for you. Again I’m always polite and accept the answer but always ask if I can leave my details for future reference....I’ve never had a call back. So my intrigue is, do you sincerely believe that knocking kitted up and ready to go is a) acceptable b)a good way to show you’re keen and c) the way to gain permissions?  I’m open to any and all advise and after reading your post feel I may have missed a truck/listened to the wrong advice.

I would imagine that the original posters story will be very much the same as mine. I do believe that eventually I’ll call at the rite place at the rite time but I also understand why people give up, it’s So frustrating knowing you could help but constantly getting knocked back.

I agree. Always been told not to rock up ready to go.

I have referenced other places I've shot at as a guest and gave details of the landowner etc

But always get met with, we have someone already, or I'll call you if none of the others cant make it. A polite way of saying no I guess.

I've even a farmer say he doesnt have a pest problem when the pigeons were streaming in behind him and the field was grey!

    Bump.

Did try but got no response

  17. Probably has been asked a multitude of times in this forum.....

    But..gaining permissions

I have currently been trying for around a year with no success.

I have business cards printed out, always take copies of basc insurance with me as well as my SGC incase it is needed to be viewed. Dress appropriately and approach when  I see crops being hit. Always at a convenient time (early morning before the work kicks off) .But yet I'm still met with set back after setback.

I do have one glimmer on the horizon for next season as I've managed to secure some beating and helping out on a local shoot. But this is by no means a guarantee of gaining pigeon permission.

I'm wondering if I'm doing things right as I thought that given the amount of time effort and fuel i put into driving round looking for the problems i would of thought I'd of atleast hit on by now.

Any advice appreciated as it's getting depressing now

    Tia
