On one of the farms I shoot, we have two shoot days. Saturday was the second day.It was a cracking day in good company,followed by a superb supper in the local. Bag was something in the order of 5 pigeon, 3 woodcock and 18 odd pheasants. Whilst we were finishing the last drive, I noticed an ivy covered tree that quite a few pigeons flushed out of. So today I popped down to see if I could bag a few. I pulled into the yard and saw the first one sitting on the power lines, lazered it at 58 yards. 2/3rds of a milldot holdover and down it went. The bis mag passed straight through both sides neatly taking out the heart on its way through. I backed the truck into the barn for a clear view of the ivy covered oak. It was a perfect distance at 40 yards. It wasn't long before the next one arrived and that too went down like a stone. and from the truck An hour later I had 6 in the bag. It was now close to 3 so I thought I would try my luck in the woods as they came in to roost. I was quite stunning in there.Footprints of every description giving the woods secrets away,deer,rabbit,fox,badger etc. I could have spent the whole time just taking pictures. I found a good sniping spot close to a large holly bush. This gave me a clump of larches at 45 yards and a few elms and oaks at similar distances. As the light started to fade I had dropped 7. Thinking it was just about over, I took a pic and was just leaving and another flurry of activity. 2 more and I called it a day. Prepping the birds, you can see the crop contents of just three birds. Ivy berries obviously with the Bis Mag tin for scale, It always amazes me how much the pigeon can cram in their crops.
