went out last Friday to shoot over rape stubble. The field is about 250 yds wide and we'd built the hide behind nettles and under a small tree looking out across the field. We were well hidden.
Instead of dropping in to the decoys or coming for a look see from a height which is what I'm more used to, the woodies sort of came over the hedge and immediately dropped to about 2-3 feet off of the ground and came skimming in at speed from about 100 yds out.It was very easy to lose sight of them against the stubble.
We deliberately stopped shooting to see what they would do without being shot at. It would seem they wanted to use the tree as a sitting tree. When they came within about 25 ft of the decoys they would rise into the tree. We were so well hidden that at one stage we were looking at 6 pigeons sat over our head.
I've never experienced low incoming skimmers at speed before. But we soon got our eye in and took 120 in 4 hours. out again tomorrow
