  1. Got an invite from a mate today to shoot over 150 acre block of rape, turned up about 9ish to see about 1,000-1500 birds feeding hard. The only snag being that the whole block is overlooked by the student accomodation of a university!.So now i'me in a quandry,do i take a chance on shooting in full view of hundreds of potential 'antis' and all that could entail or admit defeat and go home.what i was concerned about was armed response etc as a ploy by some well meaning but misinformed member of staff /student also.you can just imagine it "There's a man in a field with a gun " etc. So nothing for it but a phone call to local plod, informing them of my plans for the day.Wellllll ! What a complete load of ********! The guy i spoke to was very pleasant and polite but some of the questions, "have you got a license?" "What weapon are you using?" yes that W word again".What calibre is it?" at this point I asked him "Surely if you run a PNC check you will know all you need to about me" CAN'T do that sir ,not protocol." So after some 15 minutes or so of this we were done. Ended up with 157, great day, though did feel ill at ease all day just waiting for the aggro to start,as it happened I need not have worried! OH i JUST REMEMBERED , NICE MAN ON PHONE GAVE ME A REF; NO. AND TOLD ME TO PHONE WHEN I WAS FINISHED, SO" THEY" WERE KEPT UP TO SPEED !!!! ALSO DID YOU KNOW TO PHONE 101 FROM ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY IF YOU NEED POLICE IN A NON EMERGENCY!! APPARENTLY LOCAL EXCHANGE TO YOU ANSWERS.CLEVER STUFF.RESENT HAVING TO DO THIS FELT LIKE ASKING PERMISSION TO COME/GO BUT SEEMED RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO .JUST WONDERED WOULD YOU HAVE DONE THE SAME? ?
