  1. Recently experimenting with means of raising decoys above a crop of uncut beans the old brain cells gelled together and came up with the following. What you need is off cuts of grey 15mm plumbing pipe known as ,"Acorn". Its a pretty good match for grey pigeon feathers. Assorted garden canes. Tools Junior hacksaw Old knife Blow torch or camping stove. First cut your lengths of scrap pipe off in 7 inch lengths. Heat the knife blade and use it to slice 1 inch down the pipe bisecting it for this length. Use the hot blade to sculpt a 'V' with the broadest part at the end of the pipe. Work this broad end to a size to fit the slot in shell decoys allowing the shell to slip down to the narrow part of the 'V' where as a looser fit it has some movement. Select canes which allow the pipe to slip over them and cut those 5 inches above the nodule. You can have a selection of canes in lengths to suit different crops. In use you push the cane into the ground and slip the pipe with decoy over the top. Easier than those bent metal things to use and less prone to blowing away although by no means 100% secure.
