Well Saturday was decoy time so off we set at 6am with my new sxs Gunmark silver sable deluxe 12g and deeks to find some fresh drill in search of some woodies! I felt good about this expedition as if I knew it was gonna be a good day. I met my friend Archie on the field he also was keen to get sum Essex birds!!! We were all set up by 6.30 waiting in the hides with the dog, decoys out and rotarys spinning all in hope of some action. 4 birds came straight across and in, we shot a bird each and they were immediately added to the decoy patterns , 1 hour later unfortunately all went quiet we had eight birds down so we packed up and decided to move on in search of some stubble perhaps things might improve ? Well we arrived on the stubble and **** law the birds got up from all directions sickening, again off we went to set up new hides and deeks but this time we would both just be using the four shot deaduns perched up on the stubble. Just got into the hide and first bird came in unfortunately no gun loaded so in and out it went. Right now for sum fun gun loaded ready, within seconds in came 2 birds bang bang 1 down this looks interesting I thinks. The dogs gonna be busy picking up this should test her as its her first full season out. A constant stream of birds continued to drop in not all decoyed, a few doubles and had so some good shots to say the least but best of all the dog was busy picking up the stragglers that dropped a country mile away. So at last it looks like im on the money for a good day. 4 hours later I picked 41 birds and hit many more to equate for at least another 10. My friend Archie who was shooting close to me on the same field with his sxs 28 bore Aya no2 had also had bagged over 30 birds so we felt we had both done very well! As we left the field the birds slowly returned oh well always another day we sighed!
