My dads not really into any fieldsports but loves walking so for fathers day I thought we'd have a father/son weekend away stalking. Scenery and beautiful mornings for him and hopefully some deer for me, really wanted my first muntjac. Having had such good experiences before and knowing the ground I booked with Lee Stroud from Seeka Hunting again. www.seekahunting.com/ Booked two stalks, Friday evening and Saturday morning (anything for a half day!) Stayed at the awesome Sutton Hall Bed and Breakfast which I can really recommend.www.suttonhallnorfolk.co.uk/ Before we set out went to zero the rifle and even managed to get dad to have a shot at the target. Set off on Friday night on a beautiful evening. Norfolk is a beautiful part of the world! Saw lots of wildlife and had a shot at a fox who must have seen us just as I fired and dodged the good news. Did see 3 muntjac we nearly stepped on them and they bolted from a spinney across the cover crop and off into a uncut field. Back to Sutton Hall for a nice bottle of wine and some sleep. Saturday morning we were up bright and early. Went to some different ground this time and as soon as we got out it looked good. Nice and thick scrub! We stalked around for a while. Saw 2 cross a ride to our left but they didn't stop. We circled round them to a spot where Lee said they normally sit in two bushes. We sat between the bushes. After about 20 minutes a doe came charging out of the left one to within 20 yards of my dad, barked, stamped and then just stared at us. I tried as to move the rifle and the sticks as quitely and smoothly as I could but got nowhere near and she legged it. Dad didn't know what to do, never had anything like that happen before and it was really good. We walked back to the ride to follow them and about 200 yards further up heard them to our left and then saw bushes rustling. Stalked a little further to see into an opening where we thought they'd come out and could get a clear shot with a backstop. Seemed like forever but was probably about 15 seconds out came the buck. Lee said ok and down he went on the spot. http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p491/lukepulford/9f959d73.jpg http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p491/lukepulford/7cf14b17.jpg Not bad for my first muntjac! Really happy. He's due back from the taxidermist in a couple of weeks. Dad really enjoyed it, I got my deer and the freezers full of the best organic free range meat you can get! So much for just going stalking once "to see if I enjoy it"! Thanks Lee, 2 successful stalks out of three. Pretty impressive! Won't let me upload the photos, says they are too big, any ideas of how to "shrink" them?
