  1. just cleaned my gun and power washed the dog runs before winter, so i thought i would sit down and give the boys (and girls) an update on my advert last mth for a new shooting buddy. Well sean turned up yesterday morning with a dozen of his hens eggs for the missus, so that was a really nice touch, i had loaded the landy up the previous night and we were off to where i used to live 20 miles away. we arrived and parked up and got the coffee out and let the dog out for a sniff round and watched for the birds on the various flightlines, there were 3 lines we could have sat in as there were birds everywhere (for a change), about 500yds away there is a pigeonwood which works as a reservoir for birds, we dont shoot near there as it is also a release pen for game on the other farm, there must have been at least a couple of hundred birds fliting about around it, and every now and then 4 or 5 birds would split up from the "swarm" and run up the flightlines up towards where we would set up. The field was soaking wet and still rape stubble, anyway we took a breath and trundled the landy thro the muck and bullets down to the hedgrow and "sitty" tree where 3 flightlines intersect each other, dumped all the stuff out of the landy, ( why do we always carry so much **** about eh!) set the chairs up and built the hide around the seats, i left sean to "dress the nets" with dead grass and stuff whilst i took the landy back to the top of the field. walked back and settled in loaded up using 30gramm 6's in a 26" number 2 , sean was using a number 4 and D&J 32g 6's 1/4&3/4 choke.....aint going take take any prisoners ! first bird came straight for sean at 120ft he pulled thro and BLAM! CUT IT OUT no bover....few more came in and it was time to put the flapper out as we should have set up 50yds further down the hedgline, anyway the flapper did its work and pulled the birds offline over towards us where WE WERE COOKING ON GAS YESSSIREEE everything was going to plan and it was a beautiful day and there was truly a god in heaven afterall.............................. .............BUT OH YES BUT.....2 john deere tractors turned up , one with a 6 furrow reversible on and the other with a drill and they were cooking on gas an all, 10 mins after they had started they looked like a Grimsby trawler hundreds of seagulls .....no pigeons ! so we stuck it out until 1.30 then packed up and decieded to go for a drive round, dropped off at another wood to see if the dog would put up a pheasant or two ..nothing there so back to the landy and drove over to the other fields of rape, birds about in 2 and 3.s but not worth setting up again for. So we wanded back to where we had started and the tractors were just finishing and they left and we stayed there watching the skys, and sure enough the pigeons decieded to come back, but it was getting too late so we deceided to make our way back home. we didnt get much but we didnt get cold and sean could see the potential of my area and we are making plans for our next outing......... cheers for the company sean, it was nice to get out abd see the countryside at work and the dog slept well last night DITCHMAN
