A bit of a long story but I have tried to keep it breif . This morning when packing away my gear (hide, decoys, etc) I was approached by by the landowner who`s land borders the shore and was asked what the **** I was doing shooting on his land. I replied by saying that I was in my rights between the spring high & low mean tide marks in Scotland we have right of access to wildfowl on the shore. (my feet were in the mud) A bit of a discussion took place as I felt that I was well within my rights to be where I was as I had previously contacted BASC. He suggested that I was trespassing on his land and that he would be in contact with the police. Although I was trying to be nice and calm about it all I felt that he was becoming aggressive both verbally and in his body language ( pointing his fingers in my face and raising his voice) and I said to him that there was no need to use this type of threatening mannerism and he replied by saying that I would know when I was being threatened. At that I said to him that I would also be in contact with the police. (Which I have done and had a good response and I have been told that I was not in the wrong.) During the conversation he went on a bit about how he is not into shooting but charges £70 for goose flights on his land (a high price so as not to encourage goose shooting !) and I also know he has paying guests on his estate for shooting deer, duck, pheasant & woodcock etc so a bit of a double standard. He is beginning to get a bit of a name for himself as this is not the first time that he has had a run in with wildfowlers. Although I do not intend to take his threats to seriously or pursue the matter further, it has been logged with the police and BASC Scotland in the event that it happens again. Part of his land runs very close to my house although the land has been leased to the forestry, I know his keper has taken guests on a walked up rough shooting through the woodland for woodcock etc, so next time I know they are in the woods I may just carry out some training with my own dogs.
