  1. My little grandson who is two and a half is really excited this Christmas. Wife and his mum walked down to the village high street and a chocolate shop had a tree in the window a train under it going round. Grandson was fascinated kept saying wow as it came round. So a directive from nanna was issued to grandad to sort one. Looked online and the better ones are expensive for what is a few weeks use a year. Polar express one great but not paying hundreds for one, Hogwarts again good, coca cola holidays are coming train set was a no go from nanna. Settled on the Hornby 00 guage Santa's express train set, much more reasonable at £55.00. Set it up yesterday just before daughter and grandchildren arrived, keeping the toddler off it was fun but it kept him amused for ages. The lack of lights was a bit of a letdown but price was cheap, so look on amazon and yellow 5mm led's were ordered, thought I would mount one in front of engine as a lantern, no go when I took it apart as a steel ballast block is there. Decided only other place on such a small train was in the engine cab windows, so soldered connections to motor feed and put it back to get her after a bit of fettling for wires. Not correct but looks ok as it lights up the floor and skirting as it goes around. Looking forward to seeing his little face light up when he next visits.
