hi , im about to buy a muzzle loading shotgun, it's a brown bess flintlock, the gun is in fair condition and works ok, all seemed good untill i noticed that there was no serial number anywere to be found on the gun?? strange i thought, and asked the man selling it if he knew why,? he informed me that there never was one and that he registered it on his license with no problems, he even showed me his license as proof. there was no signs of a number being removed (if so it was proffessionaly done) and it still had proof marks on the breech end, i have bought guns from this person before and had no problems, he is not a gun dealer, just a retired gent who is giving up the sport. i want to make sure it is legal for me to buy this gun as it is with no numbers??, but having no number tells me to steer clear. can anyone clear things up for me as i realy like this gun. thanks.....dave.
